The staff at Stewart Island flights are exceptional, particularly Amy and Shona. They were great at suggestions for our trip and Shona gave us a very informative bus tour . Her personal touches and input made the tour really memorable and enjoyable. Would highly recommend to every visitor . The flights were terrific- well organised , easy and fantastic scenery. Would be my first choice every time !! Thank you .

Amazing experience taking the plane to Stewart Island. Very easy check in etc at Invercargill airport. Flight takes approximately 30 minutes and we were lucky that both outbound and inbound flights we took were not too bumpy as the weather was good. We certainly felt the extra cost above the ferry was worth it

Pilot Leon was absolutely amazing! When we had to change our pick up date from dough boy bay he made it all work for us, he was friendly with our kids and us. I would highly recommend flying with them. The pilot who took up back from Oban let our youngest boy sit in the passenger seat which he can't stop talking about. Fantastic air line with the most friendly and accommodating pilots, thank you guys so much for making our experience the best while being on steward island! Tye family!

Quick flight and friendly staff. If you can deal with the 15kg baggage limit, it’s absolutely worth doing. It was about $5 more than the ferry if you include the invercargill shuttle.
If you’re hiking, I recommend ferry there and fly back so you can buy the gas cans and food on the mainland (cheaper) and you’ll be lighter after eating it. You can’t take gas on the plane.

Because Wifey is not a sailor, we decided to fly to Stewart Island from Invercargill. Check in at Invercargill was quick and easy with friendly helpful staff making life easy. We had booked a mid afternoon return same day but were told if we decided to stay a while longer, there were seats available on later flights. We could make a decision on the island and let the team over there know.

Top Tip: get the front row seats or the co-pilot seat for best views.

Plane was small but didn't feel cramped. Pilot was great. Flight was 20 minutes. Landing was an experience ... the runway is long enough so don't panic.

We took the 90 minute guided bus tour also with Stewart Island Flights. Een though there is only 28 kilometres of roads on Stewart Island, we never covered all of them because the tour took us to the best places anyway. Guide was brilliant and knew all the answers to the million questions we asked.

After the bus tour we did indeed move our return flight back to a much later flight and spend all day exploring more of the island.

Departing the island was quick and easy just like it was in Invercargill. The whole team was brilliant to deal with.

Top Tip: Book a Coast to Coast flight next time. Fly from Invercargill to Mason Bay then walk the 15.5km (4hr) relatively flat trail to Freshwater Hut then get a water taxi to Golden Bay wharf.

Top Tip: book accommodation and stay the night - that's when the 20,000+ kiwis come out to feed.
