Basic Accommodation, more backpackers than Hotel

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 8 Mar 2020
Very clean place to stay but it is more backpackers than hotel. Our room was a lot smaller than the photo showed. The hotel is pretty old but has beautiful woodwork. Be careful using the lift at your own risk it doesn't feel like it will make it up or down. The room sloped in towards the hallway, the bathroom window did not lock, and the fire escape outside the window was skeptical as to whether it would hold a fire emergency. The private parking is an empty lot opposite the hotel. But if you are looking for cheap and close to town, this is for you.

Great place to stay. Excellent staff. Large room. Close to city centre. Good food at the restaurant. Have stayed there 3 times and Will again later this year. Decor a bit dated but clean and tidy. Free wifi.

The room appeared to be clean at first glance, BUT, there was a something half cleaned up on the floor and the bedding really could do with an up date it was stained and had multiple holes.
I am not a tall person but the shower head came up to my shoulder, and the shower it’s self had black mould all around the base.
The shower also leaked leaving the toilet sat in a nice puddle of water.
My laptop was bigger the the tv provided 😂.
Over all I would never stay here again and have let my work know NOT to book any other staff here.

This was very appropriate for our needs. A set of bunks and a single bed. Clean and tidy. Very small bathroom, clean tidy and hot shower. Small area to make tea and coffee. Fabulous old building with lots of charm. We left too early in the morning to sample breakfast. Very noisey overnight from the road but not within the hotel. I understand the man at the front desk at check in time was busy but trust me a smile goes a long way. Would stay again as it is nice and close to every thing Dunedin.

Aussie family in Dunedin for Devilskin & Like A Storm concert, we stayed at the Leviathan and we had a great time. It’s not often you can stay somewhere like this with rustic character & charm. The front desk staff were fantastic, the rooms were fine, the dining room and other areas were great. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Thank you!

Very run down, we had a room with no heating apart from a small electric heater. No heating at all in the bathroom and single glazed. The bunk bed wobbled around a lot. The toilet door would not open if the toilet seat was down, the bathroom was that small. Overall it was not worth the money.
