The receptionist was so nice that she called me a taxi to go to the castle though that was not her job.

We like museums and Otago is one of the best in New Zealand. I have been before but it was a first time for our son who we thought may be distracted but he was totally immersed. Even a nice cuppa and vege afternoon tea nearby. Lots of good helpful information in the form of give-outs and informative people. Can not single out any one thing because so much + so good. Very much liked.

What a fantastic museum! Besides the many floors of interesting displays, the Maori culture and NZ history (including a replica of one of the ship's cabin to enter) there is the Butterfly house off the amazing kids area and the Planetarium.

I went to the Planetarium with a ladies group recently and while not normally into astronomy I found the video of our own night sky fascinating. Really well presented and question time afterwards made it a very worthwhile visit that I would recommend. I will go back another time and see the video of the night sky between here and overseas - England I think it advertised.

At Christmas time we had young Grandchildren staying so we took them to the Butterfly House and Discovery World knowing what good value they were and that the kids would enjoy the experience. They did! Having butterflies land on them was mixed - the oldest loved it; the youngest a bit more cautious. Seeing the tarantula display was the highlight for grandson. Wear layers as it is very hot in there. Granddaughter liked jumping on the on ground large piano keyboard set up for kids to make their own music in Discovery World. Mum and Dad relaxed at the café downstairs and Mum bought a necklace at the souvenir shop while we toured she is not into butterflies. A good outing for all.

Butterfly hatching program is to be applauded, and well worth a visit. The climate is warm for the butterflies, so also a nice place to warm up from cold Dunedin days... Visit and see for yourself the wonders of God's Creation.

This museum has a lot to offer. Unlike the other museums that I've visited here in New Zealand, Otago Museum has hand-outs that they give away to guests for free. I find it cool so you do not need to read the entire thing while you are inside the museum, most especially if you are running out of time. It has a good and fancy atmosphere which are not present to the other museums I've been to. It is definitely a good place to visit while you are in Dunedin. It is convenient as well as this place is near the Octagon. I will definitely be back here when I visited Dunedin again!
