This is a lavish domestic snapshot of the early New Zealand rich merchant class. It was a bit quirky (like the Japanese sword collection greeting visitors) and the expensive bric-a-brac made it feel like a home rather than a display. Our guide was amiable and knowledgeable, but also a bit deaf, and didn’t hear some of our questions. No photos are allowed
