Olveston house is a historic home of a business man and his family preserved in time as a monument and attraction.

Architecturally, a wonderful specimen and filled with antiques and wonderful historic household items, Olveston House is a good place to go on a guided tour and learn how people once lived - and some probably still do.

The grounds are grand the the tours informative. This is an old-fashioned tourist attraction that connects the past to the present.

We had a lovely visit to Olveston recently. Kevin, our tour guide, was very accommodating given the limited time we had to spend at the homestead. His knowledge of the house's history and ability to share its story were first class. The house has been beautifully restored and maintained and will provide visitors a rare glimpse into Dunedin's past and the experiences of the family. The gardens are small but also lovely.

Guided tour was exceptional. Tour guide had solid knowledge about the house and was passionate about ensuring the tour was enjoyable. Great gift shop and obviously dedicated staff made this house a pleasure to visit. The gardens were also outstanding.

We visited Olveston for the first time today, and found it a fascinating insight into history. Kevin, our wonderful guide, was incredibly informative, and we had plenty of time to both learn about the history of the house and family, and explore the 'clutter' of treasures from all around the world. The gardens are also gorgeous, and worth wandering around.

Dunedin residents have a reduced rate entry, plus there's a scheme where you can get in free when you bring a paying guest. Definitely something all locals and visitors should consider doing.
