Seeing the endangered Yellow Eyed Penguins both in the hospital and in the wild was amazing. The commentary to begin with was of the highest quality and the information detailed. Walking through the observation trenches in the hillside presented us with closeup viewing of 2 penguins in the wild. Added to this was a walk around the headland to view a seal colony.
After that we boarded the Monarch to view the Albatross both in the nesting site near the lighthouse and out over the sea at the harbour mouth. It was a marvellous experience added to when a little blue penguin popped up beside the boat. The passion about the location and its wildlife by the captain was evident. This was a highlight of a visit to Dunedin for us.
