Review of Bealey Quarter
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 May 2019via mobile
Great location, friendly service, clean and comfortable rooms. The shared kitchen is very well appointed. I took the private room upgrade, well worth it. Co-located with a pub that serves great food - so winner sll round. Recommended for affordable accommodation in Christchurch.

Was in the hostel for a week, it’s about 15 minute walk into town. The hostel was rather large but clean and tidy. Reception open 24 hours. The showers were warm so all good. The WiFi was high speed. The kitchen was quite small considering the size of hostel. Liked the fact there was a fridge in the room so only your roommates in the fridge not everyone’s stuff, so less people to take your food. Beds were comfyish but a bit squeaky but can’t be helped. Would stay here again.

We had a double ensuite room, with it's own kettle, fridge and TV, on the ground floor with a lockable french door for ventilation. The reception staff were very helpful, the laundry handy and the location good - it was a short walk into the city centre, but there was a free bus service as well.

Finding way to your room first time is like being in a maze. Then it is fine. I stayed only one night. Friendly staffs. Fast. Clean. Private room is great. It was after a 20hours transit from China. I recommend this hostel.

Hi Natilie,
Thank you for your review and recommendation of our Hostel, we do have signage advising how to find your rooms by the main entrance, and I agree first time it can feel like a bit of a maze but as it is only 2 main corridors people soon get their bearings!
All the very best for the rest of your travels,
Cheers

Reception staff were helpful on check in but can’t compliment much after that. Beds super squeaky, top bed sheet not changed between visitors, kitchen wayyyyy too small for the amount of guests and personal shelf and lockers could do with a wipe. Plug socket next to the bed was handy though! Location also isn’t ideal, quite a way out of town.

Hi,
Thank you for your review, and sorry about having a squeaky bed, I'll get them all checked over the next week, they do come loose over time but usually they only need a tighten once or twice a year. Have passed on your comments to my head housekeeper and she will be checking shelves and lockers to make sure her team are doing their jobs properly.
And yes a peak times the kitchen can get pretty busy, we also have a nice outdoor BBQ area which is free to use plus next door at the restaurant they have some really good backpacker deals if you feel like treating yourself.
All the best for the rest of your travels,
Cheers
Phil

All Stars is a large hostel. It can be a bit of maze finding your room and your way out, but it's still a comfortable place. We had a twin room with ensuite, so can't speak to the communal ares too much, as we also ate dinner out. Our room was well sized, with a flat screen TV that you can plug a USB to play movies. It had a fridge, kettle, cups and tea/coffee/hot chocolate. Beds were comfortable with two pillows and a towel each. It's a new building so everything seems very fresh. We stayed on a very warm night, so it would have been good to either have aircon (they only provided a small oscillating fan) or be able to sleep with the windowed door open without getting eaten alive by mozzies (no fly screen). We found the customer service to be very good. I did notice that the dorms were packed with people, but we didn't notice any noise at night.

Room tip: Ask for the room you want

Hi,
Thank you for your review and even more for the 5 star rating, always great to know people have enjoyed their time here in Christchurch. Mozzies are normally not an issue in Christchurch but this year has been a lot hotter than normal so your idea of fly screens is a good one. I'll see what can be done for next season.
For other quality hostels in NZ do check out thebackpackergroup.com, am sure you will be impressed with the quality of all these properties, Happy Travels
