Glad we booked, was full when we got there at 6.15. Very cramped tables, felt too close to others and noisy. Great service, free freshly made bread a bonus. Expensive wine list with not many choices for single glass of wine, disappointing. We had baked vegetarian wellington, venison and lamb. Prices are up there for sure. All meals were nice and well cooked.

We went with a friend and luckily had a table reserved. The restaurant was packed, even during the week.
Food, wine and service were outstanding.
My favourites: the venison and bomb Alaska 👍

Highly recommend coming here for dinner, the service, location, atmosphere and especially the food was exceptional. It was intimate without being cramped and the open windows let in a warm breeze. The Tai Tapu venison was hands down the best meal on the menu.

Went to Twenty Seven Steps for the first time to celebrate my Dad's 70th birthday. Am so glad we chose this place - it was perfect! From the glass of bubbles they presented Dad on arrival, to the candle in his dessert there's nothing to fault with the night. The food is AMAZING, so delicious. The presentation with mismatched old china was lovely, and the service was impeccable. I'm so impressed with this restaurant - one of the best meals I've had in AGES. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Chch.

Been a few years since we were here last and we weren't disappointed in coming back.
Still a vibrant place with great food and service.
An interesting menu though, with the covid restrictions, they weren't doing physical menus. We had printed our own (bit hard on the eyes reading the online phone copy I had made).
We were a group of 6 this time and all of us enjoyed our time here - we were the last to leave.
The staff was friendly and helpful and the courses well-paced.
Must come back sooner next time.
