We visited this restaurant in 2016 and I gave it an excellent review. Unfortunately this visit was disappointing. The soup lacked flavour and salt. My chicken dish was also bland. The dumplings however were good and the service attentive. I would not bother to go again.

After 3 weeks of travelling around the South Island eating great food but menus that replicated each other eg lamb shanks and beef it was refreshing to find Rangoon Ruby on the next corner to our accommodation. The food leaves a fresh sensation in your mouth. Exciting flavours stay on the tongue well after finishing and leave a lighter feeling that makes you feel satisfied.

Very good dinner, menu and service excellent. Semolina and coconut dessert to ‘die for’. Glad we stumbled upon this restaurant and wish we were spending more time in Christchurch so we could repeat.

Discovered this lovely restaurant when surfing the internet looking for good food near Cathedral Square. I am a vegetarian. They had a very nice selection for all courses. My husband who is not a vegetarian, said it was one of the best meals he has had in this part of the world. Very nice & quiet ambiance. Extremely pleasant staff especially Christopher, who was very patient & helpful with his suggestions. Would highly recommend to all foodies. Their portions are a bit small. But then just order a couple of more dishes. Moderately priced

An interesting experience as the menu doesn’t have any mains and all the dishes are made for sharing. So we ordered the tea salad, the deep fried chicken pieces, the sautéed prawns and the dumplings. All the dishes are quite small so it is best if you order about 3-4 dishes for every two people. The tea salad was rather interesting. The deep fried chicken was nice. The prawns were huge and the dumplings were okay. We also ordered dessert as well, the creme brûlée and the chocolate mud cake. It seems that the desserts are pre made and just sit there as they were served incredibly fast. Overall, it is pretty pricey for the amount you get and I was still pretty hungry after. Probably wouldn’t return but it was still good.
