This exhibition seems to be relocated from time to time. We found it to be worth a visit, but probably not the most poignant of memorials that abound in Christchurch. Nonetheless we commend the artist and the installation.

Sad spot and a little run down now. But a great place to reflect and pay respects to victims of a tragic event.

185 white empty chairs were placed in an open space for remembrance and memorial for people who died in 2011 Christchurch earthquake. Extremely touching.

Quite a stark reminder of what happened in the Christchurch Earthquakes. A very peaceful site. And well set up and looked after.

Set in the down down area of Christchurch CBD only a few mins walk from many hotels etc.

Quite a stark area with many of the buildings in the area having been demolished after the quake, it is quite a sight to see.

As it was our first visit to Christchurch is was hard to imagine what is was prior to the quakes as many buildings have been torn down and removed and there is a landscape of carparks.

This is a temporary exhibit in memoriam for the 185 people that died in the earthquake in Christchurch on 22 Feb 2011. I loved that part of the memorial was signage inviting the visitor to pick a chair and sit a while. Each of the chairs are unique as are those that lost their lives.

Date of experience: March 2020
