This is a temporary exhibit in memoriam for the 185 people that died in the earthquake in Christchurch on 22 Feb 2011. I loved that part of the memorial was signage inviting the visitor to pick a chair and sit a while. Each of the chairs are unique as are those that lost their lives.

A very moving way to see the effect of the 2011 earthquakes on Christchurch. Brings home the number of people that lost their lives, 1 chair for every life lost, including baby seats and high chairs

Was interested to see these chairs after the publicity. Very sad to view as they represent lost lives in the earthquake. I thought the area was quite untidy. Centrally located

I hope this memorial becomes permanent - even if it is moved to another site. We found it very moving.
