We were here for lunch on a sunny, hot autumn day. It was at the very end of lunchtime, so we pretty much had the main dining area/bar to ourselves. We found it interesting that a place in NZ served Spanish food and tapas, but you need to go to this restaurant to get THAT story. My son and I shared the paella, and I have to say it was some of the very best we have ever had! The portion was huge, but it was so delicious that we finished it! (It helps to have a teenage boy to feed.) My friend ordered an entree (I don't remember what she had), and I remember that she absolutely loved it! We shared a pitcher of sangria, which was very good. The service was outstanding. All in all it was a very memorable, wonderful afternoon!

Good tapas restaurants are a bit like hen's teeth, rare. In our travels we have only found one and that is in Barcelona, Tapeo. My expectations of the Curator's House were accordingly not high, so I was pleasantly surprised. It's not great but it's not bad. We had the brave potatoes which were good but who could mess them up? The clams were a bit tough but nicely flavoured with a safron infused tomatoe sauce which was delicious. The white bait were fairly expensive and not highly flavoured, wouldn't get them again. The lamb cutlets were very nice. Overall, not sensational sort of workmanlike Spanish, overseas. Our waiter was very pleasant, the restaurant quiet and warm on a cold night.

We dinned in the upstairs private room as part of a small party. Was so pleasant and warm on a winters day as the fire was on. Simple wholesome food and quite good wine and beer selection. Our elderly mother had some difficulty getting up and down the narrow stairs. Service was excellent.

Nice setting on Hagley Park, served and seated promptly and provided with drinks and drinks menu.. along with description of the Spanish wines I didn't know. Tapas entree very nice. Main sounded lovely but the shoulder of lamb was a bit dry for my liking. Dessert was nice, but nothing to rave about. Service good, we had a private room.
