This was our second stay at Merivale Manor. It's a beautiful colonial building very well situated on Papanui Rd, within walking distance to Merivale shops and restaurants, and just a few minutes by car from anywhere in central Christchurch. The rooms have everything you'd want, including large and comfortable beds. Staff could not be more welcoming. We wouldn't think of staying anywhere else in Christchurch.
We stayed at the Merivale Manor before and after a trekking tour. Gin and Phil went WAY out of their way to make sure we were happy …..including driving a converter and charging brick out to the airport after we left them in our room! The manor is lovely… quiet and comfortable. We were in the peacock suite and had everything we needed. The Manor is close to terrific restaurants and within walking distance to the botanical gardens and performance venues. Cute coffee/cafe across the street made breakfast a breeze. Cannot stress enough how great this place was. Stay here!!
We had a lovely stay at Merivale Manor, the room was very comfortable and well appointed. Wonderful hosts who went above and beyond to make us comfortable, including rearranging the furniture to meet my exacting requirements! We had a very good sleep and would definitely stay here again.
I visited Merivale Manor prior to joining a hiking tour with Active Adventures. We arrived a day before the tour began so we only stayed for one night. I booked the entry level room, a studio spa. Had I been staying longer I may have upgraded the room.
We found the proprietors to be very friendly and helpful. The room was nicely sized with a small kitchen area and a very modern bathroom. The shower had great water pressure.
Merivale is an area just north of Christchurch proper, about a 30 minute walk to the Riverside Market. For dinner we walked to Tutto Bene, a very nice Italian restaurant about 5 minutes north of the hotel. Also nearby is the Mevimale Mall. There is a very upscale grocery store inside the mall that has just about everything. From their deli area I purchased two meat pies for breakfast the next morning.
Overall, this was a great introduction to Christchurch.
We were fortunate to stay at Merivale Manor two separate times during our month in NZ. The location, amenities, and hosts were really the best we found. The ability to walk into downtown Christchurch, or stay close in a great neighborhood with good restaurants, pubs, and shopping, was a definite bonus. Our room was warm and had just what we needed for 2: a small dining table, kitchenette, TV by the bed, and an enormous bathroom. Casey brought us a large breakfast for each morning and with our dinner leftovers, our fridge and kitchen got plenty of use. Casey helped us navigate walking around and sightseeing, gave us some ideas for other things in see on the South Island, and helped us finish the laundry when we had places to go. The parking was easy and spacious and we got some great flat whites and groceries at the mall just steps away. Casey's genuine hospitality and welcoming personality made coming back to the Manor feel like coming home when we returned for our second visit. We truly enjoyed everything about our two stays here.
