A seasoned Antarctic traveler for work, pre-covid travel to the ice was relatively simple. This year though in order to keep the Ross Sea region of Antarctica covid-free, we had a two-week pre-deployment stay in the Merivale Manor. This seemed weird and OTT since NZ was in level 1 at the time – but from stepping foot in the door Kate and Matt were super welcoming, highly professional, and their warmth, care and friendliness set our minds at ease and made for a great stay.
We stayed in main house of the Merivale Manor, the rooms was fantastic and roomy (I was spoiled with the Peacock Suite), very clean and well equipped kitchenettes, the grounds kept immaculate, top balcony perfect for evening drinks. There is a great little library, a nice lounge with coffee machine and comfy couches on the bottom floor, and sufficient little gym. The staff were very friendly and professional, and since we were in managed isolation, we had the luxury of great catered meals.
Kate and Matt really understood what it meant to be away from family and our furry children (pets) so we even got to spend time walking Willow their dog around the perimeter of the property. All in all I thoroughly recommend Merivale Manor and thank Kate, Matt and their team for a great stay!
