We were only here for two nights and although we had a very late arrival and the reception was closed, we found all our info and room key waiting for us at the office door.
The room was very nice and the hotel is well situated for a brisk walk into town to explore the delightful city of Christchurch.

We arrived in the evening and once we had our rented car, it was a short and easy drive to Merivale Manor. We were welcomed by Naomi and shown to our room on the first floor of the Manor. I had specifically requested a room towards the back so we were not troubled by street noise which was loud at the front of the house. Parking was great at the back of the house. However, it would have been nice to have had some help with our luggage. The staircase was very steep and we had two suitcases.
We had a suite with living room/kitchen, bedroom and bath. The living room was large but we found the bedroom and bath a bit cramped. Everything was very clean.
Naomi recommended an Italian restaurant with delicious food and the next morning her husband gave us some more info about walking into and around the city. This was very helpful.
We especially liked the location - close to the shopping mall (good for croissants in the morning) which had some nice shops, cafes and restaurants. This also seemed to be a very safe location and we had no worries walking back from the restaurant at night. All in all, a very good start to our tour of New Zealand.

Jeff and Naomi were so welcoming and helpful when we arrived for our three week visit to South Island. We returned twice as we passed through Christchurch when touring and finally leaving the Island. Each time we were greeted with a friendly and helpful welcome. They are covering for the owners who are on holiday. They are very lucky to have such great locums! The units are very comfortable and convenient, especially the motel units, which are ground floor and great with our heavy bags. The Manor House is beautiful and our upstairs room there on one visit was extremely up market. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this very nice place.

Great location. Easy walk to town center and sites. After a busy day, this was very peaceful. Went to a local butcher shop and selected a yummy variety for dinner that we had in our room with the well equipped kitchen. Owner and staff very friendly and helpful.

First, the property is very nice. Good parking, great location, spotlessly clean, and the service is wonderful. But the room we were in was extremely cramped. It felt as if they tried to put too much furniture in the main room, or perhaps the size of the pieces were just too large for the room.
