“Symbol of revival”
Reviewed 19 January 2017

This quite bustling little shopping district showcases Christchurch's ingenuity in the face of its troubles, most conspicuously in the funky architecture: jazzily painted, converted shipping containers. There are food stalls, coffee shops, and a selection of your typical shopping district businesses. It's central, the mood is fun, and it's definitely worth stopping by in if you're in Christchurch.

“Restart is our REAL memorial”
Reviewed 19 January 2017

Restart which used to stretch all along Cashel from the river to Colombo had a great (outwardly apparent) atmosphere especially at weekends and is the new cultural centre of Ch-ch. Some of it survives, the rest grabbed by developers with their eyes on the remainder. For me, Restart is our REAL memorial of the earthquakes - it shows the resilience and ingenuity of the people of Ch-ch in setting up businesses even in containers.'
VISIT before developers get the rest!

“Dogged determination”
Reviewed 17 January 2017

One can only have the greatest admiration for the shop owners for getting back to business. The shops are different from the usual city centre ones but then so is the centre of Christchurch. Cashel is attractively laid out and the shops provide a good range despite being restricted for space. Support them all you can

“Imagination use of different materials to create a vibrant part of the city”
Reviewed 17 January 2017

Do spend some time walking around this imaginative redevelopment by Re: Start. It's use of adapted containers for banks, shops and food outlets is unique, plus some modern, creative approaches to street art are well worth exploring. Combine it with a trip to Quake City almost opposite.
