Don’t expect luxury but practically ideal

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 Feb 2024via mobile
Basic room but great facilities, including a washing machine.

Perfect location with the City tram stopping literally outside the front door.

Certainly not luxurious but ideal for an overnight stop before you embark on what is hopefully an epic tour of the South Island.

Arrived right in central by the Cathedral.
Unfortunatly, the lift wasnt working so it was a case of lugging a heavy case up 6 flights of stairs to the 6th floor.
Our two bed appt was spacious and clean with plenty of equipment.
Two bathrooms and a central seating area was handy.
We stayed one night and being above the tramway and bars it was noisy later at night
But it was central for all restuarants so all good.
Staff were friendly

WARNING: Please do not stay here during summer months. The AC is inadequate and noisy. I have stayed here prior and enjoyed the stay however these stays were during winter. We decided to stay here again prior to my husband's hospital operation, therefore needing a good night's rest. When we arrived I checked the AC as it had been a hot day and the night was going to be the same. To my dismay the AC is a portable unit ducted through the window. I started the AC, situated right next to the head of the bed. It was so loud and noisy I went straight to reception to ask how was I meant to sleep with such a noisy machine next to my head. The receptionist was very accommodating and offered us an upgrade to a one bedroom apartment with the AC unit situated in the living area. I reluctantly accepted this as I thought at least they were trying to resolve my complaint. However to keep the sleeping area cool enough to sleep I needed to keep the bedroom door open. The noise from the AC was terrible and the unit quite ineffective for the space. Both of us hardly slept leaving us no option but to check out one night earlier and book another hotel. I was declined a refund when I checked out, however was refunded my parking charge. There are plenty of other options available with built in, quiet air conditioning for the same, if not better price. Don't risk an unpleasant stay.
UPDATE: Hotel management emailed and have offered to refund our payment for one night. We'll done thanks.

Unbeatable location! Nothing better than going downstairs to jump on the tram. We had views of stunning New Regent Street. After our 3 night stay in Christchurch, we really felt like we captured the essence of the city and the location of this hotel was a major factor! Fantastic for families, clean, helpful staff. I would recommend this place to family and friends without a doubt.

My stay here was satisfactory. I have stayed at better Quest accommodations, but it was satisfactory. My room was large, I had plenty of space to spread out and my bed was comfortable. It had everything I needed. I was right near the lift so I had a lot of traffic and noise outside my room. My air conditioning didn't work so to get air into the room I had to open the windows which meant I could hear all the noise outside and the tram bell dinging. I didn't find the staff on reception friendly or helpful. and it's in a bit of a sketchy area of Christchurch - for night particularly. Walking distance to most places though and I felt safe during the day. It's near a lot of abandoned lots so at night I didn't feel very safe.

I am coming to Christchurch again later this year and will stay there again purely as it's close to where I need to be, but it's not to the usual Quest standard. After hours check in procedures also very confusing and not very clear. I also had my phone's light flashing constantly had had to put a towel over it.

We stayed at this hotel on 2 occasions during this trip. The first stay was in the main block and the second was across the underground car park to a separate block. We had a two bed two bath apartment which was spacious and had a large open plan lounge, dining/kitchen area. I felt the apartments were a little gloomy but still satisfactory. They didn’t have the wow factor but the apartment was functional and met our needs. On the second occasion We arrived after 8pm and you have to gain entry by speaking to a person remotely using the intercom. We then had to go across a creepy car park to access the other block. I think if the hotel was staffed, I wouldn’t have been concerned but it didn’t feel safe to me. Hopefully they have cctv down there. There isn’t a restaurant or bar onsite but there was a convenience shop which I think was open to 11pm. There are restaurants and bars nearby but they close a little early for me but this seems to be the trend in the places I stayed in on this long trip.
