Quiet, clean, economical and out of the way

This delightful little hotel is slowly upgrading. I had one of the older rooms. Not a problem. Even though the carpet was a little worn and the style a little outdated, the place was very clean, comfortable bed and everything I needed for a few days in Chrischurch. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
I would happily stay here again.

Adequate for our needs. Old but obviously making changes to modernise it. Had to go back to office to ask for milk.

Beds & pillows very comfortable with extra blankets provided. Shower pressure not flash. Great location, nice & close to Riccarton mall & Hagley Park. Quiet at night & good curtains made it nice & dark.

Two flannels for four people a bit stingy!! Reading lights didn't work in bedroom.

The motel is situated on a quiet street at the end of Riccarton Road near Hagley Park. The railway tracks are a block away but the sound of the trains was not intrusive. The staff were friendly and helpful. The wifi was free and worked well. My family of four stayed for three nights in Unit 1 which is a two bedroom unit (queen bed, two singles and a pullout bed in the lounge). The unit was dated but clean and comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom were functional. There was a washing machine in the unit but no laundry powder. My main criticism would be the lack of utensils and cookware (two knives, three forks, three small saucepans, no frying pan) which meant we were unable to cook a meal for the family so had breakfast and lunch at the motel and ate out in the evening. Not very logical in a unit which could potentially house six people. Overall good value for money though and I would stay there again.

Stayed here with Family, Talked to New Manager who is working to get place up to standard, been there 3 months, and is starting to get a foothold to clean up and bring it up to date, Still encountered a few normal problems, got back after office had shut, 5 of us, but only 2 flannels for shower and only 1/2 roll of toilet paper.
On the positive our unit was clean, but some of the bedding had stains so we actually had our son sleep with us as it almost looked like blood.
As i said its a work in progress, but some basic things do help alot.
Free Wifi, Great parking, and central common space outside for kids to play are the bonuses.
Be great to see this place in 6 months, i think it will have done a full 180.
Good luck to The Manager and her staff

We stayed here for a night in Feb 2017, to attend an International cricket match at Hagley Park Oval, so the location was good.
The motel itself seems to be preserved (I would say hermetically sealed, but it isn’t clean enough for that) exactly as it was on completion in about 1971.
As I grew up in the 70’s myself it was like a trip down memory lane. However unlike nostalgia, the room wasn’t all lovely and rosy.
The greasy patina on the table tops and chairs had genuine sticking power.
The kitchenette was fairly well equipped but I didn’t feel desperately inclined to use it.
The bed and mattress continued the theme of meticulous devotion to period detail and I suspect were also original, I hope the sheets weren’t, they weren’t nylon so that’s a good sign right?
The shower was similarly authentic!
All told it was a fascinating experience. Until time travel is definitively invented I doubt my millennial children will ever get a more authentic slice of late 60’s/early 70’s life.
I’d recommend a refurb but in a bizarre way that would be robbing Christchurch of a unique cultural legacy!

My family of four stayed here for two nights. We stayed in a two bed unit (14) which was across the road from the main hotel .
The hotel is dated but the location to hagley park and the city was very convenient. Staff friendly, quiet rooms. Room had a bit of a funky smell tho. I would stay again but only if there was nothing else around In that price range .
You do get what u pay for.
