We visited here February 2019 on our last day of a 4 day visit to Christchurch. Arrived about 10:30am (opens at 10am) as it was going to be another 30 dec C plus day and we wanted to avoid the worst of the heat. A tip to those visiting - the animals were feeling the heat and many were hiding in shady areas and difficult to see.
We spent about 2 1/2 hours walking about at a reasonable pace to cover the whole park. Some viewing areas were much better than others (i.e aviary, Gorilla and Orangutan, Kea enclosures) and others (i.e cheetah, tiger, trout) were unable to be seen.
I think on a cooler day the park would be worthwhile, middle of summer at $69 later for two of us, perhaps not the best option although what we saw we enjoyed.

When entering the park, we were greeted by a very grumpy staff member who was not very helpful at all! Continuing into the park, we started at the restaurant. Food was fairly good but again service was very poor. As we were going around the park, signposts were awful as we didn’t know which direction to go in half the time. Looking at the enclosures we were very disappointed with the lack of enrichment, and the animals look bored. However on a good note the gorillas looked fantastic and were inquisitive. And the staff members who came to lock up the gorilla and orangutan building were very friendly and very interested in answering any questions we had. Overall pretty disappointing.

Spent a great few hours here with the kids. Has a shuttle that you can hop on and off if you don’t want to walk it or little legs get tired. It’s easy to walk thou and with a pram. Can hire then if needed too - not too expensive.
So many different animals to see and different times you can feed them too.
I would recommend that you start this early - when it opens at 10am. It certainly got fuller and fuller as the day went on.
Take a picnic lunch with you and chill for the day

Really enjoyed visiting Orana. I love places that places their focus on conservation as opposed to human entertainment.
The Lion Encounter was a brilliant way to finish off the visit. You are locked into a cage on the back of a van and taken round the lion enclosure. The lion keepers who come in with you then feed the lions, which then climb all over the cage to grab the food and stalk you as you like prey as you drive around - exhilarating!
Huge respect for the staff there and what they do.

A decent size wildlife park with a good variety of animals. They have a shuttle if you don't want to walk. For those who want to, you can take a leisurely stroll throughout the park to see the animals. The volunteers are really lovely.
This activity would only take a few hours. We had a wonderful time.
