I have visited a number of such exhibitions: Mt Vernon in Virginia, the old village in Denmark. Ferrymead is run by volunteers and therefore is not fully manned all the time. What they lack in numbers, however, the volunteers make up for in spirit. They are truly devoted to their role and quite knowledgable. There is a lot of walking and self touring, but it is all interesting.
A ye olde step back through time with houses, shops and exhibitions to look at. Cheaper to visit on a non-event day but event does have more things for the kids like bouncy castles and trains. The steam train one every month is good I hear.
Called in here on a bit of a whim and had a really interesting time. Unfortunately our schedule meant we couldn't stay longer but we will try to visit again on a steam Sunday (2nd in the month) when we are next in NZ. Fascinating exhibits and friendly, knowledgeable volunteers.
Visited this great place with the family,a historical village,restoration centre and also a great little museum,well worth the visit with tram rides amongst other things
We spent the morning wandering around the park taking in the various fascinating exhibits. These were restored cottages and shops, a huge collection of fire engines and a working print shop and model train layout. Volunteers staff the collections and are so willing to share their knowledge and passion. The tram trip goes round the site and ends up at a couple of old carriages made into baches. Good fun!
