As the name suggests, we were on the doorstep of the beautiful, expansive Christchurch public park. Not depending on that to carry the day, this hotel brought the flowers and garden ambiance right into our midst. Wonderful onsite restaurant and bar with very friendly and engaging staff. This would be a perfect location for a conference or family reunion. Our favorite hotel on our trip through New Zealand.
When you book for 2 rooms, you would think they would be next to each or at least a few doors apart. (We have stayed several times and always loved The Chateau. )
Until our last visit - a group of 3 booked 2 rooms at the same time yet we were assigned to rooms as far apart as the Chateau allows.
When I questioned this I was told - “ We are fully booked and your rooms have already been assigned”.
Perhaps the person in charge of assigning rooms should read this.
So disappointed.
On a positive note the in house restaurant was outstanding as always
I was told at 3.30 that my room was still occupied and that I must wait until 430 this was not great. The bed was old and had deep ruts in it making sleep difficult, I was forced to join their Hilton club just to access internet so overall I was not impressed.
When I arrived I was told I could check in at 3pm. When I tried again at 3pm I was told people were still checking out so the room wasn’t ready. Was told to try again at 4.30. At 4.30 room was still not ready but they managed to find me another room as I wasn’t willing to wait any longer. There was also nowhere to work sit and work while waiting as no Power points were near seating. I ended up dragging a table and chair in one area.
Was not made aware that check in would be so late (4:30pm when it says open from 2pm) which then put me and multiple of my colleagues behind for our work conference dinner. No apologies or concern or basic care for the inconvenience caused. Was told they were at capacity which makes no sense why you would allow late checkout for customers leaving when you knew you had another full group coming in. Didn’t take payment for my additional night stays and then proceeded to lock me out of my room without notification when payment didn’t go through. They have all my contact information and could have attempted to communicate this prior. The complete lack of basic customer care is shocking and I would have changed hotels had I known this is the service on offer.
