We're not usually impressed but wow... What a fantastic hotel. Things that made this hotel great was the warm and welcoming staff upon arrival and throughout our stay.
Then checking into the room was even a bigger surprise. The photos on the site don't do it justice. Sure the tables and chairs have been worn in and have a few scuff marks but it did not detract from our stay here.
We stayed in the Junior Suite in room 306. This suite faces Montreal Street and is offset by a small balcony with artificial grass which we did not utilise. Don't let this put you off though, as the heavy and velvet type curtains isolated not only the street sound but kept the whole suite warm. I do recommend earplugs if you're a light sleeper like myself but my wife did not hear the street noise.
Now the king size bed is essentially two king singles pushed together which were exactly like the bed I have at home. It was plush and offered 4 soft pillows and 2 harder European pillows. There is a small tv that folds out from the wall which allows you to screencast to it.
The bathroom is adequate for all your needs with a double vanity, a shower with a detachable nozzle and an overhead shower. The toilet is not a softclose toilet. The amenities for the bathroom are great as you do not need to bring your own bodywash, shampoo and conditioner. You'll find plenty of towels and your bathrobes here.
The lounge area consists of a 3seater (beware that the left and right seats have almost no cushioning), a single old style recliner with a nice footrest, an over-arcing lamp and a large tv. You can screencast to the tv but there isn't much to watch. Behind the 3seater is ample storage for all your clothes and luggage - the far-right cupboard contains an ironing board, iron and slippers for use. There is a safe in the top-left cupboard but we didn't utilise that at all.
The kitchenette is precisely that. There is no facility to cook with but there is a coffee machine, kettle and microwave. The bar fridge holds most of the mini-bar items but still had some room for our items. The tap was a bit wonky but I am unsure if that was by design as it kept shifting at an angle. My only gripe is that I wish they had mugs instead of two small cups and saucers for coffee, tea, etc.
There is a round two seater dining table.
Additional Info:
- Parking is on site and is accessed from Kilmore Street as opposed to Montreal Street. They're both one way streets.
- There was no in-room iPad. We did not ask about it as we had our own devices to use.
- Wifi connection was good for streaming services.
- I liked that there was an option to use the stairs as opposed to the lift.
- There are umbrellas available to use just near where concierge is located.
- The bar and restaurant does great service, food and wine. There will be an associated review of this.
- There was a light switch in our suite that consisted of one light switch controlling all the lights but the other three did nothing when flicked on or off. So we couldn't control the lighting for the rooms individually with the exception of the bathroom and kitchen.
