Arriving at night in the rain did not give the best impression. The lodge seemed gloomy and uninspiring with only one communal lounge area. Our room was cold and afflicted by both road noise and freight train. If weather had been hot the pool was not available for use. Sitting outdoors was not in any sense peaceful because of the road. Heidi was welcoming but the breakfast was average. The Peppertree wines were nicer than expected.

This is a beautiful B&B with Heidi and Werner being wonderful hosts. Loved meeting the other guests over wine in the evening and around the table in the morning while having a great breakfast. Heidi gave us all kinds of ideas for things to do, made dinner reservations and arranged for taxis (not wanting to drive after enjoying the areas wonderful wines). As mentioned there is a lot to do in the area, but the Peppertree is a great place to relax and just enjoy a good book. We only spent two nights and would have loved to spend a little longer.

We stayed at The Peppertree over Easter and it was absolutely perfect. Hosts Heidi and Werner were very welcoming. Our beautiful room, the William Morris room was very spacious with a beautiful bathroom. The breakfasts were fantastic, with fresh produce from their garden and the most delicious jams and pastries made by Heidi. They make their own wine and Peppertree chardonnay is very good. We had a most enjoyable afternoon sitting by the fire in the library drinking chardonnay. If you are looking for a peaceful, truly beautiful experience in Marlborough then the Peppertree Lodge is the place to stay.

Peppertree Lodge provided a memorable base from which to explore Marlborough.
The place has a real sense of history and the bedrooms are large and comfortable – but it is the hospitality of Heidi and Werner which make the Peppertree special.
Their evening drinks reception provided an opportunity to sample Werner’s wine and chat to fellow guests while standing in the shade of the Edwardian veranda overlooking Werner’s vineyard (the smallest in New Zealand).
We enjoyed the tranquillity of the small garden backing on to our Garden Suite room and loved playing petanque as the sun went down.
On the second night of our stay we ordered a bottle of wine and Heidi’s “platter for two” - an immaculately presented assortment of cured meats, local cheese, homemade chutney and relish, walnuts and olives grown on the property: Great value for money and another wonderful memory.

Heidi and Werner have created a wonderful retreat offering first class accommodation and delicious home-made food and wine. Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable and the breakfasts were lovely. Heidi was attentive and happy to offer advice and book taxis, restaurants and excursions for us. A memorable stay.

The Pepper Tree is a beautiful Edwardian Villa. Our bedroom on the ground floor also had a small deck in which to sit out. Fresh fruit and cookies each day.
One evening we ordered one of our hosts(Heidi and Werner)cold platters to eat on our terrace. Better than a lot of restaurants.
Book in good time.
