Clean and tidy but a little tired

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 Sept 2019
The staff were friendly and the room was very spacious. The full blackout curtains in the room were great, I woke up and didn't even realise it was 8:30am. The hotel is located on a main road, but noise is not an issue. I had dinner in the restaurant and was very impressed by the menu and the meals, the halloumi was delicious.

The hotel is on a main road and is annoying to get to with a suitcase, if walking from Blenheim town centre. The apple pie was clearly store bought and disappointing. The hot water takes awhile to start and the shower has very weak pressure. No one was available to take my breakfast order, I started eating cereal and was then told because of this, I couldn't order a cooked breakfast. The hotel is currently a bit dated but it is being upgraded in 2020.

We stayed in a superior room which was really spacious for a couple, nice to have a sofa and a desk with plenty of room left to spare.
Bed was massive and very comfortable.
Bathroom old fashioned but functional, some staining to mirror that looked like dirt but on closer inspection it was behind the glass so nothing just cosmetic. Shower had good water pressure, but old fashioned shower curtain not the best.
We had breakfast as part of our booking from booking.com and chose to have it delivered to the room- bacon and eggs was very nice. Didn't go to the restaurant as we were in town for a function.
Only real downside for me was the over powering smell in the hallways and room- like industrial deoderiser or some sort of cleaning product?
The staff we encountered were all friendly, and the swipe tag access after hours was very convenient

Entrance and foyer is lovely ... and then you open the door leading to the rooms where you will be greeted with a very unpleasant smell and the feeling of either being in a rest home or hospital. The room we had was very spacious, but the bathroom was very dated (shower over an old bath) cruddy wooden venetian blinds, and general mending needing attention. Would I stay here again ... NO.

This is a tired girl, that needs a serious injection from this century.

The cleaning product that they use throughout smells a bit like urine, it’s strong and unpleasant. When I arrived in my room it also smelt of sewerage. I was upgraded to a larger room which only smelt of the cleaner.

Eggs Bene for breakfast was nicely cooked and enjoyable, the best part of the stay.

Our group numbered 28 and this hotel managed us all very well over the Easter weekend. The onsite bistro served us a hot and continental breakfast each morning and three course dinner at night.
Our room was larger than expected and very comfortable with heating provided by the wall heater (and fan and heated towel rail in the bathroom). Comfortable beds with plenty of doonas and blankets and pillows. The rooms are serviced daily which was greatly appreciated as we really enjoy a clean bathroom with daily replenished soap, towels, toiletries.
The only areas in which our room could be improved is to provide a reading light for the desk or the chairs, and more insulation in the walls. The walls are timber, not brick, so the guests walking past in the hallways can be heard, plus occasional chatter from the room next door, plus overhead pedestrian noise from the floor above.
Service was excellent; the duty managers were always friendly, calm, professional. One bonus is the hotel's offered wash/dry laundry service at $15 a bag (at time of stay) within the same day. This service was greatly appreciated as, on this trip, I was too pressed for time to do our own laundry.
This hotel is located across the road from the start of the township; it's a 5 min walk on flat ground to the quiet end of town, another 5 mins and you're in the centre of town. It's a great location if you want to walk around the town and go shopping.

Room tip: Ground floor rooms have good access for those with mobility issues or lots of luggage.
