Bijou pad well located

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 9 Mar 2020
We had the Studio - bedroom, bathroom and small kitchen with sofa/somewhere to sit, as a stopover between the train journey from Auckland and the ferry transfer to the South Island.

The accommodation is built on a hill with vertiginous steps which aren't great for the elderly or those over packers like us with heavy luggage. The bathroom is tiny but apparently award winning with its trendy stripes and mirrors. Wifi and milk provided.

We didn't see the owners but they provided a good written guide which was sufficient to point us in the direction of local eating facilities and a reliable taxi company for the next day.

A great place to stay for a longer period of time. We stayed over a month while we looked for a place to live in Wellington and were made to feel very welcome. Catherine showed great flexibility, holding extra days at the end of our stay knowing the delays that face house hunters! Her family shared their garden space and trampoline with our 3 year old who enjoyed the company too. The Billiard Suite worked well for us for the time we stayed, in terms of space and furnishings. It was also in an ideal location for accessing most parts of inner and outer Wellington for house hunting as well as getting to know the city - so a great spot for any tourists too. A bus leaving just outside the property takes you straight into the heart of the City within 12mins and past the train station and cable car so was ideal for exploring with kids. Thanks very much for your hospitality and kindness!

The accommodation was clean and contemporary. We stayed in the studio, which though small, was neat and tidy. It was easy to walk into the city centre. The only comment is that the bed was too soft for my comfort.

This is a lovely historic house that has been well transformed into accommodation, we were in the Studio Suite, the rooms were well equipped with Nespresso in the kitchen and lots of towels and toiletries in the bathroom. The unit comes with a reserved car park. A point to note, if you have travelled from the South Island and used the walk on service on the ferries don't be fooled by the relatively short walk from both ferry terminals, whilst not needing a Sherpa the second half of the walk in extremely challenging for older and unfit people with baggage. There is a bus stop outside I assume the bus would get you to the train station/town and they have links to the ferries. The nature of our stay meant we didn't actually meet any staff, our keys were in our room (unlocked) and we left the keys when we left. Also note that dining out will require a challenging walk. None of these problems are hotel related but intended guest should be aware.

Stylish and compact studio with all facilities needed, including a Nespresso machine. Located just outside the centre with a nice harbour view. You can walk downtown in approximately 20 minutes or 5 minutes by bus (bus stop right in front of the house). Very good service; I lost my sunglasses in a restaurant and Catherine managed to get these back.
