Description: Basque is based on the eating and drinking style of Northern Spain with its streets of bustling tapas bars. We offer an array of non-veg, vegetarian, gluten free and some vegan on request mouthwatering tapas and homemade pizzas, which are designed to complement the range of 12 craft tap beers and ciders, (and another five taps on the rooftop bar), imported Spanish and local wines and our extensive sangria menu. Grab a carafe of sangria, plonk on the rooftop, and watch Courtenay Place pass by beneath you.

Basque is one of those cool.little bars you wish every other bar.could be like.

With a chilled out spanish influenced style and menu, freindly attentive and knowledgeable staff and a cool little rooftop bar this place is a gem in the mecca that is Wellingtons food and hospo sector.

Great beers on tap and in the fridge, knowledgeable and friendly staff, tasty food which was served quickly I am becoming a real fan of this place.

Given its location on Courtenay place its a great place to start before or after a play or the movies. They also have a get together where you can engage with speakers of another language so I'll def check that out.

5 stars guys, you rock and are a testament to the fantastic hospo scene that is Wellington

Basque is a cosy venue at the end of Courtney Place, Wellington's main drag, and close to numerous hotels and hostels (and public transport). Described as a tapas restaurant, one wouldn't immediately presume it was also a spot for beer, of which there is a modest range available, both on tap and in the fridge.

Inside is warm, the staff are friendly and the decor is quirky. There is an an outside seating area upstairs, but the weather didn't lend itself to that when I visited. The a 'Sangria Bar', which is cool, and the food looked amazing, with not only tapas but pizzas, burgers and platters. The evening I ventured there they had 'Mundo Lingo', a language sharing event, which I think is great for encouraging travellers to interact in a friendly and sociable environment.

Free wifi was available, which, again, for the traveller, is ideal. I wouldn't mind popping back here before I leave the city.

No 7 on my Craft Beer Capital trail of Wellington.

Average service, average decor, average beer and the food just slightly below average. So many better place s for beer.

I highly recommend this place, the tapas menu is fantastic and the staff gave good advice on which options to choose when I couldn't decide. The sangria was fabulous too, my favourite drink and I wasn't disappointed with what Basque had to offer. The decor is quirky in a cool way - a very enjoyable evening. I'll be back.

Loved our dinner at Basque! Sangria, beautiful tapas to match those we have sampled in Spain, and most importantly, brilliant service from all of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend.
