We took our daughter and her dog here to walk on the dog friendly beach. And you can watch the aircraft arriving at the airport.

It is very easy to go to Lyall Bay. When the weather is nice, one can see a lot of people surfing. There are several ways for people to go to the beach and to take a short walk. However, there is hardly a shelter around should the wind and rain arrive suddenly. Note that Wellington is famous for its sudden rain gusty wind.

I love Lyall Bay in all kinds of weather. Its lovely to stroll on a sunny day, but equally fabulous when the wind whips up the surf as it did when we were there. Rugged and beautiful.
Great for kids, and dogs.

Meander down the beach or enjoy a coffee while watching the planes come and go at Wellington airport. Either way you'll have a great view from Lyall Bay. There are shops for the shoppers amongst us, cafes and of course the beach. Popular with the surfing community, there is always something happening in Lyall Bay. Enjoy!
