Very nice sushi, reasonable prices for the city, friendly service. I read about the restaurant as a good place for single diners, in the "Secret City Guide to Wellington", and I agree it was a pleasant place to eat alone.

This has been my favourite place in wellington, it is small but the food certainly packed with loads of authentic Japanese flavour.

The staffs are friendly although at times may have a little trouble with communications but overall, we get there at last. Best to book a table before you go, we were lucky that they were able to sit us and finish in an hour or so as we were really just there for a decent dinner.

We've ordered the small sashimi for the day (about 17), very fresh and tasty. The sushi is simple, we've ordered the tuna and salmon roll - tasty. The chicken steak is an unusual dish in that the chicken pieces were smoked before it was served with salad and also some teriyaki sauce. The tempura small is pretty good. We really enjoyed trying the cold tofu that was made inhouse. Miso soup is comfortingly warm and tasty with the right ingredients and flavours. Simple food but packed with flavour.

Toilet is clean and right at the back, coming back this place means that I can be assured that food standard is consistent unlike some was wonderful once and then downhill ever after. Highly recommended. For two with above dishes, it comes to around NZD 67.

Tatsushi is a small Japanese restaurant in Wellington with a large menu and delicious food. You can put your own selection together off their menu or select a set - or combine both as we did. The staff were excellent - and went out of their way to find the Shochu I wanted and to make us comfortable. It is hard to believe they create such wide ranging and delicious food from such a small kitchen!

This place sticks to the fundamentals and does it exceptionally well. While the menu focuses on using specific ingredients, the selection is very good. There are daily and monthly specials depending on the season which are worth checking out.

The quality is the best. The salmon and tuna sashimi melted in your mouth. The soups were generous. The sushi was not all rice and the tempura was good.

I can only agree with all the reviews here. Yes it can get a little busy on weekends so be sure to book ahead. Our final bill with sake was less than what I expected given how pricy this type of cuisine can be. We will be going back.

Too many times, we have walked into a 'Japanese' restaurant only to be served fusion or localised (not in a good way) cuisine that would be better suited for a Westfield food court.

In Tatsushi Mikuni's small, but intimate, restaurant, the only cultural concessions are English writing on the menu and a few local beverages on the drinks list. Everything else - the food, the language spoken amongst staff, and often the clientele - is characteristically of Japan.

Due to the relatively limited seating, we would definitely recommend booking in advance.
