Wellington : In & Out

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Jan 2024via mobile
Hotel is very clean and centrally located. The breakfast was yummy, but the service seems unorganised. A couple of issues with the room. The shower was not the best, TV channels not all working and if you like coffee.l - find a cafe as the coffee options (in room and restaurant) aren’t the best. But happy with the stay.

Great property, wonderful location, lovely room. The concierge Jeremy was the highlight of our stay. He was so well informed and warm and hospitable and aimed to please!! 5 stars for him!! We were on a very tight schedule and he did everything to facilitate our itinerary (great advise and proper direction)
Our room was very well appointed, however the TV remote was filthy. They had some sanitizing wipes that I used to clean the remote and then showed it to the housekeeping supervisor. Instead of feeling badly about this situation (since IHG have a clean promise) and acknowledging the issue, she told me she was off!! (Really so the cleaning comes to a halt ???) This is why I rate it very good instead of excellent.
Customer service with the others too (reception/dining) did not seem to be their strong suit.

This was my first time visiting Wellington and decided to stay here based on the reviews on TA. Check-in process was fine with no issues. Upon entry to room, the room was clean along with a welcome selection of beverages and chocolate which was nice. I had a view of Queens Wharf and the Harbour along with Mount Victoria. The staff was very friendly and helpful when I had questions. The hotel was in easy walking distance to most sights from the National Museum down to the Parliament buildings. There are some good restaurants across the street on the wharf. There is also a Countdown grocery store a couple blocks over next to the Cable Car entrance. This came in handy for water and snacks for the room. The train station is also walking distance, but if you have luggage, a taxi ride is the better option. The one thing I did not care was the breakfast, besides that all was good.

Great central location. Walking distance to anywhere in the city; close to the water for a nice walk, or just a minute from the entrance to the cable car which will take you to the top of the city for some nice views. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, and a Countdown grocery store just a 2 minute walk away.

Staff was all very friendly and professional. Service was great. Rooms were decent, but unremarkable.

The only reason for 4-stars is the poor recognition of IHG Ambassador members. As part of the program, one is entitled to a guaranteed one-category upgrade. Before I checked in, I was "upgraded" to a King Premium Club Access room. I had booked a King Premium to begin with, so I figured the "upgrade" was that I would have club access. That was not the case. I received the identical room I booked, with no upgrade. I was gaslighted to believe I was in fact upgraded, until I pushed back and was informed by the Manager that there were no upgrades available. I should have been told this in the first place. If you're an IHG Ambassador member, and the hotel isn't able to honor the guaranteed upgrade, you're entitled to 10,000 IHG points as compensation. Just keep this in mind if they use the same bait and switch on you when you stay. Make sure you get your points as compensation.

Other than that, it's a pretty standard Intercontinental hotel.

Checked in yesterday and so far a very mixed feel of this hotel.

First off, be aware that the pool is currently closed. We’ve been traveling for 2 weeks in Nz with children and sought out this hotel because it had a pool on site. Traveling with kids for our family when it’s hot means making sure they have a pool at some point to relax. They were very excited. Got to check in for them to tell us the pool is closed BUT they have arrangements at 2 pools in town to use. What’s really unfortunate is that they are 20-25 walking distance carrying children, swimsuits and towels. In other words, we can’t use a pool as that’s not feasible without a car.

No mention of whether they offer breakfast or not. I can’t quite tell if there is a real restaurant as we’ve only seen the bar and weren’t given an orientation of the hotel at check-in. Breakfast offer would be so appreciated with children as it wasn’t an option at time of booking.

Waited until 4pm and our room hadn't been cleaned. We then realized there was a button at the door to push that said "make up my room". Maybe our fault, but with 4 people in one room it gets messy quickly. We left and came back a few hours later to a strange scene. The bed sheets were pulled back but bed not made, pillows thrown on the bed, some trash taken and some left, some glasses taken and some left behind dirty, no new glassware. It was bizarre. We can hand wash our dishes and make the beds, but I expected "clean".

Concierge has been so helpful and kind.

We got 2 welcome drinks at check-in as part of our Platinum status. We just left another IHG property in Queenstown and were given 4 drink coupons which was a nice touch since we clearly have 4 people on the reservation.
Obviously this is trivial but something to note that the service at the other IHG hotels in the area are far superior.

When we got our welcome drinks at the bar the server came to get our glasses and kind of scoffed at us. I'm not sure if it's because we had children with us or that we didn't order additional drinks?

Location is ideal for walking and beds comfortable.
