NZ hospitality at its best! 5 Star B&B

Review of Edgewater Lodge
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 28 Mar 2019
I look forward to the next time I can stay here. The rooms are well appointed, spacious, comfy and spotless, facing the water. Hospitality is some of the best I have every experienced on my numerous travels. Hosts are genuine warm, happy to share information on the area and have great suggestions. Breakfast was the best I had on this NZ trip. The location is beautiful - on the water with a lovely natural beach. The lodge is just a short drive into the town on Miramar Peninsula which hosts the Weta Workshop and The Larder, a great restaurant. Just a short drive into the capital, Wellington. Truly a 5 Star experience!

Our 10th lodge on a month long trip happened to be the best experience we had. Not only were we welcome on a sunday, almost 2 hours before normal check in time, but warml so. Though Stella and Juergen had personal guests for lunch, they took the time to make suggestions for short hikes, things to see and places to go for dinner. And Juergen being a wine aficionado, we had some ber nice suggestions for our drinks. If downtown Wellington was a sort of traffic and noise nightmare, Edgewater was a dream. Peaceful, magnificient views, a more than lovely and comfy bedroom with a small terrace overlooking the ocean. What else ? All has already been said about the great breakfast they offer, expresso machine available, etc, etc. Value for money ? Unbeatable, as we've stayed at more expensive lodges that badly suffer from the comparaison. Thank you Stella and Juergen ! Yoi have mastered the art of welcoming guests.

WOW! Thank you so much for a wonderful review Michael. We did enjoy having you to stay at Edgewater.
I feel we don't really deserve such a great review as the internet was down the last night of your stay! the outside furniture broke! and to top it off I tried to charge you twice!!
Anyway we did enjoy having you here with us. I am so glad that you found some peace at Edgewater.
Karaka bay is the perfect place to get away from downtown Wellington.
Jurgens says thank you for the bottle of Pinot, and the whiskey. Safe travels and take care, Stella and Jurgen.

Excellent b&b in Karaka Bay. Attention to detail, fresh flowers in the room, lovely views, helpful hosts & the most delicious breakfast. We didn’t have a car, taxis in the area were rather hit & miss & the weather was dodgy, but we still enjoyed our stay very much.

Room tip: We stayed in the pink room

Our stay at Edgewater Lodge was perfect in every way. From the moment we arrived, we were so warmly welcomed by Stella and Juergen that we knew our stay would be memorable. Their house is absolutely gorgeous and the setting on the water, totally breath-taking. Our room was spectacular. They sat down with us right away and with the map oriented us and offered us the highlights of Wellington. We began—somewhat reluctantly, I must admit, as non Lord of the Rings devotees—with what turned out to be a truly fascinating tour of the WetaCave Workshop. The area where they live, about a 10 minute drive or Uber ride just outside of Wellington is lovely for walking and exploring. The breakfasts were fabulous and the attention to every detail or desire went way beyond what we would ordinarily expect. Stella and Juergen were extradinarily friendly and engaged hosts who really seem to enjoy sharing their time and home with guests. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. Truly a pleasure. We would return often were that possible. Many thanks to them for their generosity and warmth.

I have visited all 50 states and traveled around the world. I have never eaten breakfast in a more beautiful setting than the breakfast room at Edgewater Lodge. We had a limited time in Wellington and Jurgen and Stella were terrific in terms of telling us where to go and what to do. We followed their direction and had a blast. Highly recommend it!

After two weeks exploring New Zealand and coming off the grueling (for us) Milford Track 5-day experience, we ended our March 2019 vacation at the Edgewater Inn. Heaven! The property was lovely, rooms sparkling and comfortable, and our hosts were amazing. Stella's Cordon Bleu breakfasts were scrumptious and Jurgen's informative advice on what to do in Wellington was better than the Moon Book. Both were the essence of graciousness and they did everything possible to welcome and take care of us weary travelers. Highly recommended.
