“Comfortable fishing cottage with spectacular views”

We (2 adults and 1 child) stayed here for 3 nights while travelling around NZ. This place is great - it feels like you are staying in a well thought out home rather than a holiday cottage - it's comfortable, there are plenty of extras in the kitchen which make life so much easier when travelling and the heated bathroom floor is amazing!! We even had a feline visitor one evening who wandered in through the front door to say hello.
The beach across the road is excellent for exploring rock pools and looking at the various items that wash up. On a clear day, you can see snow topped mountains on the South Island. Another evening, we watched scuba divers exploring the rocks (there is a marked course for snorkelers/scuba divers). This is the kind of place that makes you feel like a local when you stay there, and you can do as much exploring around Wellington as you like or just hang out at the cottage watching the world go by.
PS - there is an excellent playground only 10 minutes stroll away with a great coffee caravan across the road.

Truly a great place to stay, the set up / location is top notch and with all the provisions / fresh fruit in the pantry and fridge (which we hardly made a dent in) it was like "home from home" We had a car so access to the city was great, not too sure about the bus service as we didn't see many although it was Easter so maybe reduced services. Jonathan was easy to deal / communicate with so a great weekend away

“Wonderful Experience!”

My wife and I were very happy to return to this charming, immaculate cottage at the end of each busy touring day in Wellington. It is located in a quiet part of the city, has an open view of the Tasman Sea where people are exercising themselves and their dogs on a public path. It is close to neighborhood cafes and small shops and is an easy drive to the central business district. Parking is not an issue.

Our hosts were extremely gracious and helpful and have cared for and stocked their property to an extent not often seen. We cannot say enough about the quality of this experience and highly recommend it to others.

Thank you, Jetta and Jonathan!

Nice cottage with view of the sea and a little island close to the shore. Good bus connection and interesting walks nearby.

We loved Island Bay Cottage. The location is fantastic, looking directly onto a marine reserve and with great waterfront walks from your door. The cottage is so homely and the pantry very generously stocked. The hosts are lovely and make sure you are well set up to find the cottage and enjoy your stay. It will be my first choice of accommodation next time I'm in Wellington.
