People have said to me that before you travel abroad you need to be a tourist in your own country first.

The Tauranga lodge is nestled in the hills comfortably just outside of town, and with a picturesque view over Tauranga and Mt Maunganui it, in my opinion, is world class.

The lodge itself is beautiful and has you enjoying its homely features as soon as you arrive. Much of this is down to the warm and constantly exceptional service you will encounter at the lodge. My partner and I were utterly blown away with how well we were looked after day and night with beautiful meals, wine and facilities like the outdoor spa pool that provides a beautiful experience once the stars settle in to the evening sky.

The lodge showed me apart of my own country that I'll never forget,

Thankyou John and Karla for making our stay magical!

Josh we were thrilled that you both choose to stay with us at the Tauranga Lodge and were able to relax and enjoy a much needed break. Sometimes it just great to stop, relax, unwind and let someone else fuss over you.(:

I stayed for four nights in December 2014. It was the most wonderful place to stay! I was so well looked after. Karla and John went above and beyond my expectations in accommodating us. Amazing food, modern and comfortable accommodation. It's the perfect place to base yourself at - a short drive to town, and only around 40 minutes to a range of different locations (like Rotorua). Highly recommended!!

Four days was just perfect for you to be able to really enjoy what the Bay has to offer. We were amazed at how much you were able to pack into your holiday and still have time to come back to the lodge in the evening and relax with dinner. It was such a great idea to fly in and out of Tauranga and have your car waiting at the airport.

I booked this based on the outstanding reviews and was not disappointed. The only caveat is that it is located 15 minutes by car from downtown Tauranga. That is mostly good (eg, very quiet), but it would be an issue if you wanted to have dinner with wine in town and drive home afterwards.

We arrived in the early afternoon, trying to escape rain in Taupo. The weather was distinctly better over Tauranga than everything we experienced to the south. We came before the posted check-in time, but Karla and John were very accommodating. The grounds and building were immaculate. The guest wing, living/dining area and guest rooms, were spacious and well-appointed. After a very enjoyable walk around Mount Maunganui and the adjacent beach boardwalk, we returned to a complementary glass of wine in the spa.

We opted for the "casual " dinner, which may well have been the singular best value we found during our stay in NZ. We were offered either salmon or venison as the entree. this was complemented by generous servings of salad, asparagus, bread, and freshly baked dessert. Music and the fire rounded out the ambience. I highly recommend that you opt for the casual dinner! Continental breakfast was similarly generous and tasty.

We had good wifi service. All-in-all, we had a great stay. We would very much like to return to Tauranga and stay at the Tauranga Lodge.

It was so wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are very proud that we get to showcase our beautiful New Zealand wines & cuisine at the Lodge. We try to grow as many of the fruits and vegetables in the lodge garden and source other products locally if possible.
Our free Wi-Fi service is great to keep in contact with work and friends while you are away.
A glass of wine while soaking in the spa after being out and about sightseeing has to be a pretty good way to end the day.

From the moment we buzzed at the gate the feeling of being completely spoilt and in absolute luxury began. Tauranga Lodge is the complete package not one detail of your every want is overlooked. Karla and John meet us at the door and we were shown into the beautiful lounge for guests to use. With the table fabulously set for our dinner for two and the fire and candles further enhancing the ambiance we would have been happy to have just snuggled in there!
But there was so much more, the bedroom was just lovely and what a comfy bed and oh did I mention the view from every room! What a view of the Mount and the surrounding city and my goodness that view was even better sitting in the spa with a glass of red wine.
I cannot speak highly enough of this place and then there's the food, for dinner John cooked salmon which would be some of the best we have had! When it came to breakfast, the only complaint is choosing what to have and been able to fit it all in! Karla's cream cheese, salmon and caper omelette was the best I have ever eaten.
We were lucky to have the whole place to ourselves over the 2 nights, we had all the privacy we wanted but also got to enjoy Karla and John's wonderful company
We will absolutely be back!

Room tip: We stayed in the Pukeko suite but all rooms have the same stunning view

We are so thrilled you enjoyed your time with us, having the lodge to your self was a great idea. Our guests tell us that having a private guest lounge is such a bonus especially when having a romantic dinner for two. Our menu has a great range of choices with something for everyone. Johns salmon dinner is a favourite and the Salmon omelettes and French toast for breakfast also seem to rock out the door.
Look forward to having you back again soon.
