Budget hotel but poor value compared to much more modern places for the same money in other towns- can only conclude that In Taupo you need to pay $30-40 more per night to stay in a comfortable way.
Unit was upstairs with a narrow common access balcony with smokers and lots of kids running back and forward.
Sofa and bed were both uncomfortable, obviously cheap and all a bit old.
Heating via aircon unit takes some knowledge to work the remote control- basically a fan heater that you have to constantly turn on and off again rather than a radiant heater.
May have given this place a 3-4 star as you can’t really expect much at this end of the market however you SHOULD be able to expect to have a hot shower. Didn’t discover this until almost check out time but water temperature is set very low basically a cold shower which I didn't attempt.
Lesson learned I suppose. Can do better.

Room tip: Upstairs room back onto noisy balcony pathway.

We stayed here 2 nights while in Taupo for an event. The room was comfortable and spacious. It was nice to have snacks & juice in our room upon check in as we did have a child with us, this came in handy. Aircon unit in the room was great as it is very hot this time of year. Parking is limited and a little tricky due to the space.very close to supermarket, and town, walking distance easily. Priced very high for a 3 star motel on this particular weekend, but due to the events on in Taupo all motels appear to increase their rates.

Impressed with the friendly staff, the cleanliness, the space, fresh carpet & paint, and complimentary snacks on arrival. We normally stay at The Barcelona as we pass through Taupo, but this place is significantly better for an economical family stay.

We arrived in taupo for a family week away. Upon arrival we paid our accomodation in full before seeing the room. I wish we had looked at it first. The room looked nothing like the photos and it smelt very strong of other people's cooking. The smell was unbearable and we could not handle spending the week there. I approached the manager and he said it was not his problem as we had booked through Wotif and he didn't care what I had to say. I offered to pay for the nights accomodation but wanted a refund for the rest of the week and he said no. So we rang wotif and they sorted the whole thing for us. We ended up getting 3 nights paid back to us and at the bottom of the email it said that if you cancel they only charge one night yet he wasn't willing to do that for us. Definitely would not recommend staying here based on the terrible room and rude staff.

This motel is well located near Taupo's restaurants, shops and petrol stations. Stayed in one of the downstairs rooms for one night. It had a very large living area with a dining table, a comfy sofa, wall TV and well equipped kitchenette, The bathroom is separate as is the bedroom which had a comfortable mattress and was cosy. The whole area was very clean and tidy, However, the smell of furniture polish was over-powering on opening the door when I arrived and resulted in a headache despite windows opened to let in fresh air. Also, after travelling the long distance from Auckland and arriving in Taupo in the evening, I was looking forward to relaxing in the spa. Most disappointed to be told by the manager that it is policy to close the spa at 8.30 pm which is far too early. Guests need to be advised of this fact when the booking is made. $145 was a lot of money to pay for one night in the room especially given that the spa service was unavailable. Also, the free wifi connection was very slow which meant that I couldn't use my ipad to check emails etc. Parking is also limited when the place is full. Overall, therefore, disappointing service for the price!

Room tip: Upstairs good for view though downstairs may be preferable for those who struggle to climb stairs.
