Made our first visit on Saturday evening and we will most definitely return when next in Taupo. The Bistro is a busy little restaurant with a mixture of tables for couples or groups. The young wait staff were friendly and capable, and the kitchen staff were clearly very efficient. The first sign of a good evening was the complimentary spoonful of ceviche, subtle with flavours of Thailand, and then the complimentary breads and oil. The calamari and lemon gnocchi was a winner, with a beautiful balance of delicate flavours. The Duck was good, as was the juicy and tender pork belly, but we found ourselves gushing about the vegetables that accompanied those dishes. The slaw that came with the pork and the mixture of root vege and purées that came with the duck were just wonderful flavour bombs and took both dishes to the next level. Good wines on offer and the Belgian chocolate slice was perfect to share. My wife and I agreed that the chef puts the emphasis on flavour over presentation, so the trip advisor photos really don’t do justice to the flavours you will enjoy when you go to The Bistro, and go you must.
