What can I say - McDonalds is McDonalds wherever you go. The food is standard so you know what you will get, and if you have children it solves many problems with the playground etc. This McDonalds was clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly

Okay, I'm not a McDonald's fan, and I didn't eat there. I did stop to take pictures at this most unique McD's. There is an airplane in the playground that kids can actually climb up into. Looks like a great playground and if you can abide the food, by all means, go!

After having our walk-around in the city center (to help in digestion from our earlier meal in KFC nearby, please refer to my earlier review of KFC here too), we dropped by this place for a rest and had a drink.

We especially loved the frozen coke and so ordered it again! It was great to have this as the weather was quite sunny and warm though it was already closed to 7pm and the sun was still shining as brightly as noon time. Great for quenching the thirst and was refreshing!

What caught our surprise was the iconic huge plane, which I felt was the DC McDonalds Douglas plane version placed next of the restaurant! It was big and lovely and indeed served as a landmark and promotional tool for the restaurant (since they do have similar names)!

We saw many people, especially the kids were curiously looking at it with some going forward to touch and feel it as the playground was just next to it.

One could choose to sit in or outside of the restaurant which we chose the former. Staff was friendly, fast and efficient, the ambience was good and clean with comfortable sofas and chair (just like the ones we experienced in Rotorua and Auckland).

The only issue we had was the unstable WIFI connections, slow and got cut off from time to time and made surfing the net a frustration. But for us we were fine with that since during meal times, we don't surf the net and also we could do so back at our hotel.

Overall everything was great here and after having our drinks, we proceeded to Warehouse and Park & Save for our shopping as most retail shops and boutiques were already closed for the day by then!

I wouldn't normally review a McDonalds but this one is somewhat out of the box due to the aircraft parked outside. What a great attraction for the kids. For a night when we just felt like takeaway we use the new create your taste burgers and they were good. I also enjoyed the coffee from McCafe. Once again the staff were very friendly which was consistent with other establishments in Taupo.

A cool experience for kids and my aircraft history buff husband. Cool to read about the work history of this particular plane.
