Hard to define the experience in words! Such a fun place, great hosts, beautiful gardens, lodge and well appointed rooms. Family style gourmet made to order breakfast in the morning and wine with fresh appetizers in the evening. It doesn't get much better! The views from the rooms over the lake were very nice, especially in the morning as the sun was rising over the water. Loved chilling in the gardens after a long day of exploring the area. Quick car ride to town for restaurants and bars. Very special place.

We spent 3 very relaxing nights at Lake Taupo Lodge as part of a 35 day drive tour through North and South Island. We had some very inclement weather on the way down from Auckland but Gary and Shirley made sure we were very warmly welcomed on arrival and set up in our room.
I’ve often heard the expression ‘Couldn’t have done enough for us’ but this was definitely the case here, with all of the small details of our accommodation explained and arrangements for dinner and transport swiftly and efficiently organised.
Rooms were beautiful and well appointed with stunning views over Lake Taupo and the beautiful gardens. The breakfasts were super with a chef on hand to create a range of mouth watering options. Evening canapes and pre-dinner drinks were also super.

Thanks to Gary and Shirley for making our stay so enjoyable. We will certainly come back on our next NZ break.

For our 65th bday, my husband and I traveled to New Zealand and visited the North Island our second week, first staying at the Lake Taupo Lodge. A throwback to Frank Lloyd Wright design, this unique property offered us a very comfortable stay (we stayed in the Frank room) and some of our best breakfasts on our entire trip. We loved the location, found it easy to get to town for dinners out (great suggestions from our host) and the room was spacious enough for two, comfy bed and pillows and a nice size bathroom with shower and tub. Thank you Gary and Chef for a lovely stay.
