Had a fantastic time on the boat and took home two trout. Really friendly owners who know good locations to fish. Would highly recommend Windsor Charters!

We chartered this boat for three hours for 4 of us and had a great morning out on the water.

You start with a thorough safety briefing before heading out to catch fish. The owner takes his passengers' safety seriously which is good to see. No 'she'll be right' nonsense here!

Ivan, the owner, seemed very knowledgeable about the area and where to try and he was accompanied by Athol who is a keen fisherman and his able assistant/boatman.

We caught 7 fish in total, 3 were put back as they were either too small or foul hooked. We brought home 4 good sized fish which were checked for sizing before we landed them and put them on ice.

It's more trawling than real fishing to be honest but this suited us. It's more about throwing the line out and sitting and waiting. The boat keeps moving slowly along with the lines out behind it.

Taupo looked lovely and the scenery was beautiful in the sunshine, we could see the volcanos and some snow still on the mountains.

We had a cuppa along the way before carrying and went to about three different places to try for fish.

Seems like we had a decent day compared to others as obviously fish cannot be guaranteed!

Professional outfit, well maintained vessel and friendly and informative service. Would recommend and go again.

Thanks Ivan and Athol for a great day - we were telling fish tales on the way back to Wellington for some time!

We booked our fishing trip in Taupo at the last minute but within an hour we were out on the lake with Maggie and Ivan fishing for trout. The fishing boat is very well equipped giving a fast comfortable ride across the lake. Ivan targeted the most promising spots to give us the best chance of catching trout. We caught 3 good sized trout with a lot of help from Ivan. Really enjoyed the trip and would recommend it to everyone.

While staying with Ivan and Maggie at their B&B, Above the Lake, we (two couples) spent a morning out on the lake with Ivan and his mate, Gary, doing a combination of fishing and cruising.

All throughout our time on the water it was clear that safety is this crew's first priority, which was very nice. We received a thorough safety lesson before leaving the dock right down to how to properly get onboard.

Gear is provided and Ivan sells fishing licenses, which is great. Trout fishing is by down rigger and Ivan knows where to catch them. Being a seasoned fisherman or a first-timer matters not, Ivan and Gary are accommodating as well as gracious teachers.

The boat is very nice and well maintained. It has a forward cabin with bench seating following its V hull, a cooktop, and a head. The aft area is also covered, which was wonderful as it drizzled on and off that day. Almost as soon as Gary ‘put the kettle on’ for tea and coffee, we had a fish on the line.

You will not find trout on restaurant menus but if your catch fits the size rules, Gary will clean and bag it so you can take it to a restaurant and they will prepare it for you. We caught a handful, two of which were keepers and our evening meal that night. Delicious!

Before returning to the dock Ivan took us to see the Maori stone carvings which are only accessible by water. Very cool.

Whether you’re looking for a spin around the lake or to put a pole in the water, you’re in good hands doing so with Skipper Ivan.
