Captain Richard was such a great fisherman. First mate Joe was a big help. Richard knows how to fish. It was early 8 a.m. trip for four hours. My husband, cousin and I were in the boat. We each caught one. One of those days where fish were not hungry. Differently would go again. Really nice people. Fish were delicious!!

I booked a last minute lake trout fishing trip with Richard. What a blast! 6 trout before I knew what was happening landed in the boat! Big ones too. Fast! I even saw the critters as gold bumps on Richard's sonar amongst the shoaling green smelt baitfish.
Richard is a great character and is clearly really well versed with all things trout and Taupo. He designed the very rods you will catch your trout with, appropriately named 'Kilwell'. Ask him about the 23 hour Marlin fight he was involved with as a Marlin boat skipper. It's like the old man and the sea.
If you want a memory, better to go with someone like Richard rather than bland bigger operators who have no stories and no chuckles.

Great Experience!
Had an excellent afternoon 2 hour trout fishing with Richard. He is very nice guy, we only had 2 hours but everyone got fish! Very knowledgeable fisherman and a pleasant host, would highly recommend! We would go back next time! Thank you. Regards, Lee

My wife and I booked a charter with Skipper Richard and First Mate Joe for a 4 hr trout fishing adventure. Richard recommended an early departure since for the last few days the fish had been biting early. We left the dock at 7am and had caught 5 Rainbow trout by 9am! Like Richard predicted, the fish turned off and we had one strike in the next two hours. Richard loves to catch fish and he was frustrated by the lull after 9am but my wife and I were happy and very satisfied. We took one large trout to a restaurant Richard recommended and they cooked it for us for dinner! The rest of the trout we took to a meat market, that also Richard suggested, to get smoked overnight so we can munch on them during the rest of our trip in New Zealand. Richard wants his clients to catch fish and we highly recommend Pinnacle Charters.

We went trout fishing with Skipper Richard on the charter boat, Pinnacle, today.
Caught two beautiful Rainbow Trout! Everyone extremely happy. Richard certainly has a knack for catching fish. Highly recommend his professional operation, while being friendly, he is very informative and he knows lots about this lake and the fish who reside there.
We have just had the trout for dinner after cooking them on the bbq, as per his recipe, and they were delicious.
