Checked in to a lovely warm walcome and enjoyed a great night's sleep in the well appointed and comfortable split level appartment-style room. The bed is brilliant, the bathroom is nice and new and the attention to all the little things is terrific: nice big fluffy towels, lots of quality toiletries, big choice of tea and coffee etc
Having two loos and two TVs is also a nice treat.
Looking forward to eating here in the restaurant tonight after a day-long conference in one of the large, well catered and appointed meeting rooms.

This is a normal business hotel, with a few quirks.
Pros
The view from our room was excellent, large windows and a sea view in the distance. The room was in fairly good condition. The mattress was comfortable. The shower worked well (liked the control on the entrance of the shower away from the faucet).
The room had a good number of power outlets.
The bar has some good beer on tap, and a few good items on the menu.
The restaurant serves a very nice steak.
They have a self-serve laundry. ($4 a load.)

Cons
There was not a single lamp in the room. Not a desk lamp (had a desk and a table), not a floor lamp, not a bedside lamp (had two bedside tables), not a wall lamp. Only overhead halogen lights, and those we could only turn either all on or all off. Completely impractical to read by.
The bed has a heating pad that you sleep on top of. That was strange to me (apparently not that unusual in NZ), but what was bad was that the heating pad has two plastic boxes where the electricity gets to the pad on each side. That makes sleeping near the edge of the bed very uncomfortable. They are right at elbow level and that means you lose most of a foot of bed width. The maid did remove the pad when we asked her to.
The breakfast buffet was $22, but was very meager for that price.
There are not that many restaurants in the area. This is mainly a commercial area. Many more around the other end of town with museums and more hotels.

We travelled to New Plymouth for New Years Eve and stayed at the Quality Hotel for 2 nights. We stayed on the 1st floor in a Superior Studio, room very clean and roomy, pool lovely. We had a meal in the bar New Years Eve, best steak I've had for a long time. Would recommend staying here, in fact we are going back this New Years Eve and staying in Deluxe Superior room. Staff very helpful and welcoming too.

Room tip: we had a room overlooking pool, road a bit noisy but on the whole any room would be fine.

A little dated but clean & tidy. Good size room. Air-condition was turned on & room was cooled when we checked it. That was a real bonus as it was a really hot day & we've had a long drive from Auckland.
