My wife and I stayed at The Devon Hotel in New Plymouth, and loved it. We got a great deal on their website, and spent 3 days with them. The town was really buzzing with tourist visiting from all around the world for WOMAD. A number of (obvious) stars were staying in the same hotel. We loved everything about our stay. The welcome. Every staff member who we met. The drinks in the bar. The best restaurant we've ever eaten at.. The weather was great. We had swims. We took out their free bikes. We went to the new Len Lye Gallery, and cycled the walkway. We WILL be back. Great hotel. Great city.

Ok so the rooms were typical of what you might find in an average 3star hotel in provincial NZ but the wifi service to the room I stayed in was very poor, didn't connect easily , and when it did connect it would drop out. In addition there is only 1000mb. But on exit they charged a credit card fee. This is a first for me and a sneaky way of trying to get a few extra dollars. It was never pointed out to me when I booked in. I complained to the manager on a point of principal and he didn't seem to care a jot. I'll make my choice to never stay here again as it was not a pleasant experience

Thanks for your feedback. Our IT team have subsequently checked the free high speed fibre to your room, and are unable to determine why there was a problem with your computer.
I'm particularly disappointed that on your first stay with us (albeit only for a matter of hours), that our 1.75% surcharge on credit card payment on your discounted room charge, was so upsetting.
We 'd love the opportunity to restore your faith in our team and hotel, if you are ever back this way.
Kind regards,
Peter Tennent

This is a lovely hotel in a good location. Rooms were clean, lovely pool and spa area. Staff were friendly and helpful. New Plymouth has a lovely coastal walkway perfect for cycling. We had planned to rent cycles in the morning but to our delight when we checked into the hotel we discovered they had bikes right there...free of charge to guests! Make sure you book direct as they have a great deal which includes buffet breakfast and the deal was not available using online booking agents.

Room tip: Our bathroom was tiny...so if you need larger might pay to ask when booking.

Thanks for joining us, and for your feedback. I'm glad you got to experience the coastal walkway - cycling, running, walking, or a quiet meander - it really is fabulous.
We'd love to see you back soon.

Stayed here recently with friends. Ended up with a disabled room which was quite spacious compared with the room our friends had, which looked very small. Positives were the excellent staff both at reception and in the restaurant and the buffet dinner was very good quality and value. Negatives inc the cell like room with a tiny window which our friends had, and the very dodgy tiled floor in our bathroom which was a wet room. It was impossible to stop the floor from getting very wet and extremely slippery. Very glad we weren't disabled! Overall though, providing you can avoid the tiny rooms overlooking roof tops, a highly recommended hotel.

Room tip: Avoid rooms with small high windows overlooking roof tops!
