We really enjoyed the stay, very affordable, helpful and good staff. Shared kitchen plenty of room, unisex toilets and showers were ok. Could hear the running creek, nice surroundings of the bush and the camp cat lol. Double bed and 4 bunks just what we needed. Clean linen and very comfortable beds. Would definitely stay there again.

If you are travelling around by car this is the best location you can get in New Plymouth. Its really nice and about a 20/25 minutes walk to the city centre by a beautiful walkway. Staff is super friendly, facilities are good and shared rooms feel very homy. Only thing I must be negative about is the quality of the beds. I know its a backpackers, but the matrass really needs replacement!

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed at in New Zealand. The property is tucked away in a little forested area with plenty of outdoor seating which makes it feel like you’re not even in a city. What makes it even better is that it’s conveniently located just a 15 to 20 minute walk into town if you need to do groceries or other shopping. The two managers running the place: Lyn and Tina-Marie create such a warm and friendly atmosphere and welcome you in with open arms. They’re very helpful in all ways and go the extra mile by introducing you to others and offering to join in on cooking group meals. The hostel cat is snuggly and cute and just an extra bonus to this beautiful place :) I would definitely recommend this place to anyone coming through the area.

Thanks for making my stay so fantastic!

Really quaint place to stay, had an awesome experience! Tina checked us in, and even after we arrived later than expected, she was completely welcoming and absolutely lovely for the remainder of our stay. Rooms were clean and the kitchen was very nice, free coffee and tea was even offered. If we had more time we absolutely would have stayed longer :)

I stayed in the Eco Lodge for 10 nights and it was the best place I have stayed in NZ. The rooms are clean and cosy, the staff are incredibly friendly and the location is perfect - close to the town but also within a secluded forested area. Highly recommend!!!

The location of this place is fantastic! It’s based in the middle of a forest but still only 20min walk from the centre, which makes it very peaceful and the perfect place to stay if you’re planning to go up Mt Egmont Taranaki.

It hasn’t got the most modern facilities but that isn’t really a problem, I don’t think it’s any more dated than other hostels I stayed in. However the manager going around every 10mins switching all the lights off (even when you’re using the facilities) is pretty annoying. I know its an ‘eco’ lodge, but it felt unnecessary, most people do turn lights when finished in the kitchen or bathroom. Also cat on the kitchen table where guests eat is not ok.
