New Zealand road trip

I stayed at Egmont Eco Lodge with my friends for one night. We had a whole room to ourselves, which was really good. The hostel was clean, overall a very nice place. If it had free wi-fi it would have been perfect.

I really liked the place but it is an half hour walk to the city. Could be a little bit closer to the Mount T. then other hostels but still: If you don't have a car it's not the best place.
Moreover I sadly lost my headphones over there; never found again. And I had the worst night of my whole journey at this place. You have to pay extra for bed linen and I thought it's alright but I freezed the whole night and it was summer. Well. The cottages aren't really isolated. But that's more or less my fault.
If you are a group of people with a car it might be the best hostel ever. Celebrate a BBQ in the backyard as I did on my birthday and you will have a nice time.

I stayed here out of a throw of a dart more than a real plan. Although there is a 20 minute walk $10 was not a big deal for a taxi. From previous reviews it appears new management have made a real effort to keep the place tidy and clean. They are friendly and helpful with travel and activity arrangements. The grounds are a little old but a very beautiful gem hidden away.

I stayed here because everywhere else was fully booked due to a cycling event. It is quite a trek - about 20 mins walk to the centre so not good if you have lots of luggage and on foot. The reception opens at 5pm which wasn't a problem as I arrived then anyway. My room had lots of bugs in it, the linen is not fresh, smelt fusty. Make sure you don't drink a lot of water as going to the toilet at night is scary! There are no nice areas to hang out in, not very sociable as everyone sticks in theirs groups speaking French or German! people checked in to my dorm at midnight and started unpacking. The second night a big group were really noisy when they returned at half 11 at night. On the plus side the female receptionists seemed nice. Made me laugh they give you a lolly on check out as if to say sorry for this place being a bit rough.

I stayed there recently and was disgusted that I saw a large Rat run out of the kitchen. The toilets were cleaned once in a week. Not much considering there must have been over 30 people using 4 toilets. There are no smoke alarms in the rooms. The staff don't seem to care at all and probably because the owner is arrogant and passes this attitude down to his staff. Commit a crime and stay in prison instead!
