Description: Where to look first, outwards, upwards or at the live chef displays... Set high on the side of Mount Ngongotaha, Stratosfare is the newest hot spot on Rotorua's burgeoning foodie scene. Luxurious Italian marble, granite, schist stonework and timber set the scene for a memorable experience where David Trubridge light frames your dinner setting for an evening that is sure to delight all your senses. Skilled chefs at their stations craft your cuisine, while cocktail connoisseurs mix and shake at the bar - and the sights don't stop - there's also an incredible 180 degree panorama of Lake Rotorua and the city to soak in amongst the atmosphere. Did we mention the menu? A range of cuisine is presented to tantalize your taste buds, from the tidal mussel tank, ensuring the freshest mussels you can find, to the flame rotisserie, aged prime cuts, Art of the Grill, seasonal salads and the freshly cooked-to-order crepes, we are sure you will leave wanting to come back again and again. Featuring a stunning array of freshly prepared buffet and cooked-to-order dishes highlighting locally sourced seafood, meat and produce, Stratosfare will take you on a gastronomic journey. Our commitment to quality begins long before our produce arrives at our pinnacle site. We work in partnership with local NZ farmers and growers who share our commitment to food excellence, from the pasture to the plate. Our award-winning Wagyu Angus cross fillet steak is just one example. Our prime beef comes from 16,000 hectares of coastal farms near Gisborne. The people of Mangatu Farms have been working their ancestral lands for more than 200 years. They can tell us exactly where the beef has come from, how it was reared and what it was fed. It's the little details like these that set our dining experience apart. We think you will be able to taste the difference too. Last dinner booking 8.30Pm.

At the top of a ten minute gondola ride awaits a feast to suit a king. The array of food is extraordinary, better than any buffet I have come across before. There are a number of different cuisines available to entice our overseas visitors. Meat including venison, beef, nz lamb and pork can be cooked to your liking. A large choice of salads and vegetables are also available. And to top it all off the dessert bar is laden with delicious items to tempt you. The view whilst eating takes in the whole of Rotorua Township, the lake, Mokoia island and you can even see Mt Tarawera in the distance. At night the lights are just beautiful. I highly recommend anyone local or visitor to enjoy this restaurant.

We purchased a combo ticket which included the gondola ride and buffet meal for $69pp. The ride up gives great views over the town and lake. We upgraded our meal by $15pp to get a guaranteed window seat plus a drink (including cocktails) and unlimited still/sparking water - considered the upgrade good value as my glass of wine alone was £15 - so would recommend. The buffet is well laid out, with a substantial selection of starters/soup, mains, puddings, tea/coffee - catering for all tastes and good quality. There were a few large groups but they were seated in a different area so there was no noise impact. Yes, there were some plate filling scoffers but dishes were kept topped up and so not a problem. Service was really good and all staff we encountered were chatty and friendly - it was my wife's birthday and she received a small cake and card signed by staff, which I thought a nice touch. The only negative in my opinion was the background beat music which seemed out of place.

We had a waitress Milka she was friendly and had a nice personality she is an asset to the restaraunt, we could not fault the food or the service. A must visit when you are in Rotorua and ask for Milka to look after you.

We were looking for a 'nice' meal and this seemed to fit the bill. You can only book the restaurant along with the gondola ride to the top and that was a bit of a waste of time for us as we visited in the evening when it was dark. The buffet was delicious and had a very wide range of cuisines including a huge selection of meats. It was delicious and plentiful but expensive at the same time. I can't comfortable say that it was with the money overall.

Food is average, perhaps a half-step above the typical buffet restaurant.
The only saving grace are the panoramic views of Rotorua.
With Dinner & Gondola at $85, I would rather dine somewhere else.
Would I recommend it? For tourists ... rather do one of the many authentic Maori experiences.
Would I go again? No.
