The guides were incredibly friendly, taking our questions and making us part of the tour. Very informative and such a beautiful culture. The food was delicious and bountiful, all you can eat. Would recommend.

I was overall disappointed with the Tamaki experience. Heavily commercialized, the trip started with an awkward tour bus experience narrated by a guide who seemed to somewhat trivialize the Maori culture in his exposition. This is not a real village and the "chief" presented as such is a performer only. Disbelief is difficult to suspend given the alternating trivialization and the demands to repeat "Kia Ora" incessantly. The foreign feeling of having a group of people talk about you in another language, like a nail salon, was present here, as it was clear a few of the Poi-weilding women were being haughty, gossiping about one elderly lady who was chosen to try to spin the Poi, and a few other guests.

This aside, the performance (song, dance), was good. The entree and dessert was respectable. This was not a very educational experience, but lightly immersive.

I love and respect the Maori people, but I would not recommend this is the best venue to appreciate their rich heritage.

My mother and enjoyed had an incredible experience at Tamaki. Booking was easy and staff were friendly and helpful over the phone. Our bus driver, Davey, was so friendly and effortlessly entertained, informed, and amused the whole group. I was somewhat expecting the whole thing to feel a bit commercialised, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The staff are so passionate and clearly care about providing a really educational and enjoyable experience for each and every visitor. The learning sessions in the village were great and the cultural show was moving and so well performed. It was a bit of a shame that some experiences were for men only (being the 'chief', learning the haka) but this is obviously understandable as a part of the culture. The hangi dinner was incredible! I can't shout out to the staff enough - they're all so friendly and watching them sing and dance with huge smiles on their faces makes you infectiously happy. A absolute MUST experience for all ages and backgrounds.
