We had a lovely stay, upgraded to a better room, location was spot on, and parking great.
Loved sitting by the fire in the lounge area, and had 2 lovely meals in the restaurant. It rained most the time we were there, but imagine in better weather sitting out on the balcony or in the pool courtyard. The room was beautifully cleaned each day, would definitely recommend

This is a very nice hotel with excellent reception and concierge service and an old world charm. The thermal pool is a very nice experience. Hotel restaurant is average but the bar service is quite nice. Hotel service was quite good.

Comfortable, old hotel with lots of antiques and history. My room was a corner room with balcony. Loved the beautiful staircase and fireplace in main entry. Location was good, and staff very helpful. There was a hot tub, private spa offered at hotel for no additional fee. The water was heated by thermal pools underground. (And it was hot!).

The Prince’s Gate Hotel capitalizes on it’s location. It’s a short walk to the tourist Information Centre, the Polynesian Spa and Eat Street (an alley with a number of great restaurants co-located).

The rooms have high ceilings and the lobby had fires with ample seating to hang out (if you prefer not to sit at the bar). There’s lots of vintage items that help reinforce the “classic” styling including chandeliers, old rotary phones, dressers etc. The bed was very comfortable and the room was immaculately clean.

We had a great stay but we found ourselves on the Ground Floor and the residents upstairs had kids. We were awake well before 6AM as they spent the morning running around, making lots of noise. This is not the hotel’s fault by any means but it might be worth them looking at allocating rooms in different parts of the hotel exclusively for families, so they can run free without risk of ruining other patrons’ sleep!

Good morning Chatelaine76
thank you for staying with us and for your feedback - greatly appreciated.
Sorry about the noisy children above you. Families normally stay in our apartments because of better family facilities and to reduce inconvenience to others. I will discuss this further with my reservations manager.

I got a good rate for the 2 bedroom suite, and the photos looked good, so decided to book.
The suite is very dated. The door to the second bedroom wouldn't close as the single bed was too long. I told reception and they said they'd have a look. They just moved it closer to the other single bed (in a very small room).
There is only one air con unit in the lounge area, which didn't reach the bedrooms. It was so hot in the bedrooms (it was about 21C during the day and we couldn't keep windows open due to lake flies). There was underground heating on all the time, and this couldn't be controlled by us)
When we were there they were painting the outside of the suites so there was scaffolding everywhere. To get to the pool you had to either step up and over a large rock, or duck under the scaffolding.
They lock the gate out to the street at night, so if there was a fire, you can't get out straight to the street. You'd have to go around via the pool (and scaffolding etc)
All in all quite disappointing.

Good morning Sharon and thank you for staying with us and for your feedback - greatly appreciated.
As part of our refurbishment programme, the apartment blocks that have the one and two bedroom suites are being upgraded with new beds, carpet, furniture and painting. Prior to us taking over the management of the hotel just under two years ago, we have installed airconditioning in all the suites, and further units are planned to overcome the temperature issue you experienced.
The scaffolding is in place for a short time as we undertake storm damage repairs to guttering and windows (And taking the opportunity to repaint the exterior of the building as well) - apologies for the inconvenience to you.
Please note the gate is never locked - just closed and guests can access it at anytime. We also have 24 hour reception.
Kind regards Phil Agent General Manager
