I booked a room here months before we actually arrived. When we got here the place looked fantastic and full of olde worlde charm. The two fires in the lounge area were welcoming as were the staff.

We checked in and were taken to our accommodation. Unbeknown to us we had been upgraded to a one-bedroom suite - the Marvelly Suite. Absolutely superb. An entry hall, staircase, landing, large lounge, large bathroom and large bedroom. My wife is still on cloud nine!

Nothing to fault.

Staff are very friendly and helpful without exception.

The location of the hotel is great - an easy walk into the main shopping area.

Highly recommended.

I stayed here for business over labour weekend, I find for the price charged this hotel was very standard. Placed next to the balcony doors where every single person who walked through them slammed them. Dinner was a lovely meal but seating in the centre of the bar with everyone for the show walking past you and the dining surroundings for that evening was definitely not appreciated, it felt like we were plonked wherever due to the show. Breakfast was terrible, no plates & waiting for service, the cooked food was bare at 8.30am yet still offered cooked buffet, empty trays and only to be told it wasn’t going to be topped up, scrambled eggs that were dry like cardboard. I know for certain I would not recommend this Hotel to my travel agent and would not be staying here again.

Good afternoon Kelly
Thank you for staying with us and for your review and feedback.
As part of our renovations of this historic hotel, the entry doors are to be replaced to eliminate the noise problem that you encountered.
Unfortunately we had a dinner show and another private function in our two dining rooms the night you dined. We will look at alternative arrangements for dinner guests for occasions a similiar things occurs.
I sincerely apologise for the sub standard breakfast you encountered Sunday morning. The buffet was prepared for an earlier group and should have been removed immediately they finished. We have a lovely cooked to order breakfast menu well received by guests, and you should have been offered this. It is not normal procedure to have a cooked buffet for house guests at breakfast.
Kind regards
Phil

Beautifully maintained, clean and comfortable in a central location. Walk to local cafes and restaurants, hot pools and lakeside strolls. The staff are very helpful and made our stay memorable. The rooms at the front of the hotel, room numbers in the 20's, are beside the road - we found this noisy and asked to change rooms. We were shown a 1 bed apartment and lovely room at the back of the hotel - nice to have a choice! Rooms with mini bars and kettle, tea and coffee etc. Some of the rooms appeared to have newly refurbished bathrooms and some not. Big Chesterfield couches and newspapers to relax with by the fire in the spacious lobby. Three small hot pools at the rear of the property are for all to use. Outside dining at the rear of the restaurant is a nice option.

Room tip: Free parking for hotel guests

A quaint old style hotel with studio apartments attached.

Service was generally very good. We had booked a one bedroom suite for two people and the web site indicated queen beds in these. The booking confirmation even stated that extra bed is not included. Yet the apartment given to us had a double bed and a single bed crammed into it, which was not asked for, expected, or in any way suitable. Fortunately we were given an apartment with the one queen bed in it, which was much better.

The rooms are quite old and can be in need of little bit of repair, but are quite comfortable. A renovation is certainly not unwarranted.

The bar, restaurant and sitting areas are of old world charm and very pleasant. We found the service to be first class here.

There is a three level heated spa/pool which is quite novel. No jets, but the hot water comes into the first pool which sits at 42C (so I'm told, because I wasn't daft enough to try it), then flows into the second which is about 40C and then into the third which is at least 38-39C.

Location is very good and it's walking distance to the lake, CBD and walking trail.

Enjoyed our stay and would stay again, but take care with the rooms.

Dear Traveller_busy
Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for your valuable feedback which is greatly appreciated.
Since taking over the management of the hotel at the end of April last year, we have been busy upgrading facilities in the hotel and refurbishing the main house hotel rooms. We have plans to refurbish the apartments next winter to include new beds, furniture, carpet and bathroom upgrades to improve guest comfort levels. Bedding configuration will be one aspect taken into consideration.
I hope you enjoyed your time in Rotorua
Kind regards
Phil
