First lets just talk about the elephant in the room.

There are no bathrooms in the hotel rooms. Your room IS your bathroom. The Toilet and the Shower are glass cubes.. shower to the ceiling… toilet open topped. There is no private space in your room to dry off and change your clothes. If you are sharing the room with someone you are not comfortable sharing your intimates with … this is not the hotel for you.

My room the toilet and shower were directly opposite the bed. Very awkward. I asked for a room with a normal bathroom – and it was very clear from the response that this is a very frequent question.

Being a hotelier myself I can only assume this is a way to put more rooms on the floor (this is an office block conversion) and an attempt to cut costs and try and make it look trendy.

There is also no light for the toilet – so the only way to go to the bathroom at night is to turn on the main lights of the room. Nice – wake up the roommate.

Parking – the hotel is surrounded by 60 and 180 minute street parking and Rotorua council is VERY vague on the website on when they stop patrolling both weekday and weekend… The reception staff have no idea. They were no help at all. Come on this is supposed to be a 5 Star hotel!

Secure Valet Parking is $45 which is criminal. Even the brand new Mecure in Queen Street Auckland is $35 – that I can understand. The car park is an asphalt pad right next to the hotel with big secure gates each end. But the back gate is left open all night – so it is not actually secure. My room looked down onto it.

Dinner was very good. But the steak knife I was given wouldn’t cut butter.

Breakfast I had Eggs Bene which they put on a Hashbrown which sounded nice. But the hashbrown was thick with raw onion. So disappointing. The hollandaise sauce was put into a could metal container.

I mentioned this to the staff… “I will tell chef”. Wow that is all you are going to do?

The bed… I had a better sleep last weekend at Ibis Budget at Auckland Airport – their beds are amazing.

To be honest – you are better off to stay at the Novotel – Free parking (first in best dressed – but even when Rotorua was cracking with tourist there was always parking) and you have a bathroom and you are right on the lake frontage and across the road from ALL the restaurants on Eat Street. Sorry Pullman – but it’s the truth.

I need to say I am a frequent user of all flavours of Accor hotels worldwide and as I said a hotelier.

I did put all of this on an official internal review tool many hotels use – as does this one - called Trustyou… the Assistant manager who replied (G**** S****) … did not actually reply to any of my points… he just copied and pasted a bog standard reply. So disappointing and so cheating the reporting matrixes that Trusyou uses on their system to measure hotels performances. Looking at the other Tripadvisor reviews they don’t read Tripadvisor or respond to any of the reviews on here.. which is also disappointing as the Trustyou tool allows the hotel to reply to each review with personal response for all to see. This is supposed to be a 5 star hotel – this sort of thing is a is an expectation.

Stayed in a suite here on my birthday. The room was lovely. Comphy bed and good quality linen. The shower pressure was great. Room was exceptionally clean. Layout was very unique and different! Tv was huge and in a perfect place. Not much of a view but you could see the lake!

We stayed one night. Excellent location - is right in town so don't need a car to get to some nice eating places. Friendly, welcoming check in and out, very comfortable bed and warm, spacious room. Nice little seating area away from the bed & TV. Nespresso coffee machine with capsules plus the usual sachets of tea, coffee, sugar. Have to pay for parking, either valet at the motel or to park on the street (free in weekends). There's a $100 bond per room added to your bill on check-in, plus a credit card surcharge. The bond is deducted if all is well when you check out, The main thing for me was the lack of privacy when using the toilet or shower. These are the first things you see when you walk into the room. They're in glass cubicles on either side of a long vanity unit and although it all looks upmarket and nice it's not very practical. The toilet door doesn't even go all the way to the ceiling so not only can everyone see that you're in there but also hear you doing your business. Recommend staying in these rooms with someone you know very well and don't invite other guests over for a long chat. Lovely room, very quiet and looks nice but probably won't stay again.

Room tip: Stay with someone you know VERY well. See my review re toilet.

The hotel enjoys excellent staff who are attentive, helpful and share an obvious camaraderie. The staff were genuinely interested in our overall experience in Rotorua. Odd requests were never a problem. The suite was relaxing with stunning lake views.

We just spent 3 fabulous nights in the Pullman Hotel, Rotorua. The staff were amazing – from the moment we entered the building until the moment we left. The dining room staff were exceptional and the chef absolutely went the extra mile to please us. The food was delicious. Our room had plenty of space and had an awesome view of the lake. However the bathroom design wasn’t great. Definitely would prefer a separate bathroom, not one that has an open plan setup with little privacy. Two frosted glass cubicles, one for shower, one for toilet and the rest opening into the lounge area wasn’t ideal. There was no separate light for the toilet cubicle so when going to the toilet during the night, the entire suite lit up. Also no reading lights above bed so had to use phone torch to read at night. Loved the friendliness of the staff and the delicious food, but because of the crazy bathroom, probably won’t stay there again.

Room tip: Stayed in lakeview room and the view was wonderful
