Photos on the Breakwater's web site are accurate. It is across the highway from the bay and quite scenic.
This is a very family-run hotel. The reception desk appears to be part of the owners' home.
We splurged for a seaside suite with a bay view, and it was great fun to lie in bed in the morning and watch the ocean. We stayed in winter, so kept windows closed and didn't hear highway traffic. In the summer, traffic from Hwy 11 might be somewhat noisy if you opened the windows.
The deck is not large, but we were able to have breakfast out there.
Kitchen facilities are fine; we were able to buy groceries and eat two meals in the room.
Some reviews mentioned in-floor heating on the tile floors in the bathroom. That function was turned off and locked during our stay. This is not a big problem, but don't stay here for the heated floors.
Hotel is walking distance to everything in Paihia, including shops and the ferry dock. Some other hotels are a longer walk or would require a drive, so I appreciated the location.
I enjoyed my stay. In walking around town, this looked to be among the nicer hotels in Paihia, and I recommend it.More
