Booked two nights here after having a bad experience at another location in Paihia. we were travelling with our 7 year old granddaughter.

The first impression was very good, with well kept grounds with stunning gardens. Facilities included a pool, hot tub, dining and bar and guest laundries which were very clean.

All staff we had interaction with were very friendly and helpful, even allowing us to check in early after we explained our circumstances of having to leave the previous accommodation a day early due to it being unsatisfactory.

We booked two nights because we didn't want to leave until late the following day and thought it better than asking for a late check out, giving us the use of the room until around 3:00 pm. On checking out we were given, unasked, some credit off the tariff because we would not be staying the second night.

The only thing I could say was a negative was that the water from the shower in our room flowed everywhere but down the drain! The tiler who did the floor did an extremely bad job and had the drainage all wrong causing the water to flow into the bathroom and nearly out of the door! Shower badly need a hob constructed to contain the water as there is no door on the the shower cubicle. Whilst his was a bit of a nuisance it did not detract from our stay.

For anyone requiring accommodation for a couple of nights or a longer stay in the Bay of Islands I would not hesitate to recommend the Kingsgate Hotel Autolodge. It is within a couple of minutes walk to the wharf and shops, cafes, etc. and right on the waterfront.

This hotel has an excellent location right across the Bay of Islands. It is very convenient to the shopping, restaurants and boat tours. Our room was cozy and comfortable but had no sofa for sitting. Our room did not have bay views. Breakfast was available at extra charge. The staff was very helpful. Shower stall was small. First 30 minutes wifi or 50 Mb data was included; but that was finished within minutes with many apps downloading on your computer. We had to buy one day WiFi at 3$Nz which was not bad at all, but why not include it upfront in the room rate and save us the hassle?

Room Tip: Our room was booked by a tour company. We are not sure how much extra the rooms with Bay view cost.

Nice handy location right in the heart of Paihia, within walking distance to shops. In house restaurant offers buffet breakfast as well as dinners.
Free daily newspaper on request, gym, pool, spa, and even games room to keep the children entertained.
Staff were also very accommodating.

What a lovely place to stay. We had a suite and beautiful view of the water. Meals were delicious and staff very friendly. Recommended for short or long stay. Prices also good. Short walking distances to shops or catch the ferry to Russell.

Once again we have enjoyed a couple of nights at this hotel. This time we were in a first floor room which had two double beds and an en suite shower room. Everywhere was very clean with furnishings, bedding and towels of a high standard. The shower was great with plenty of hot water.
Breakfast was included in our booking. This was perfectly adequate with fruit, yoghurt, cereals plus a hot buffet and toast, crossoants and preserves. The dining room staff were polite and unobtrusive, the dining room was definitely not busy so we were able to get a table by the window each day which allowed us to enjoy the fantastic views out into the bay.
The weather was not warm enough to actually utilise the outdoor pool but we did sit in the pool area which was neat and well sheltered.
The one downside to this hotel is the fact that you only get 30 minutes of free wifi per day and that is only available in the lobby AND has to be used in one session!! This is pretty archaic in this day and age but unfortunately it seems to be typical of the Millenium group of hotels.
However even that downside would not prevent us from staying here again. The hotel is well situated, convenient for shops restaurants and the ferries and pleasure cruises on offer.
All the staff we interacted with were pleasant and friendly.
