Received a warm welcome from Norm and Shelagh, felt really looked after with nothing too much trouble. They were happy to drive you down to Paihia if you wanted to go out for a meal/drink etc. with excellent recommendations of where to eat (and places to avoid).

They booked our Dolphin Experience trip on our behalf and arranged pickup and then came down to collect us when we were ready to return.

Amazing views from our very comfortable apartment in a peaceful location.

Would definitely stay again and have no hesitation in recommending Cook’s Lookout Motel to others.

Norm and Shelagh were awesome. We had been stung by a double booking at another venue and were incredibly impressed by Norm and Shelagh's warmth, support with problem-solving and work to secure us a spot with them. The pool was a perfect place to unwind and we loved the stunning views over Waitangi. The bonus was the fantastic position to view the New Year fireworks over Paihia. It's a spotlessly clean venue and we loved the 'no smoking anywhere on the premises' rule, as no cigarette smoke smells wafting from another balcony or lingering in the buildings. Whether you're looking for a base for exploring the Bay of Islands, nice family friendly accomodation, or a quiet spot to retreat for a few days; Cook's Lookout Motel is a perfect location. We really appreciated Norm and Shelagh saving our holiday, and really lucked out in finding them.

Room Tip: Incredible views from most, if not all accomodation.

Stayed here with two friends last month and could not have been happier with the choice. A short drive from the center of town ( on a hill with the most outstanding view ), quiet, clean and our hosts were delightful. Norman and Shelagh were so friendly and fun. So helpful in suggesting restaurants and arranging daytime activities. We stayed in one of the ocean view suites with a deck and the views were stunning, both day and night time sky. I would strongly recommend this to anyone!

Room Tip: There are several rooms with a spectacular ocean view - beautiful any time of day and a magical night sky.

My mum and I spent 5 nights at Cook's Lookout in December - wish we could have stayed longer. We stayed here on our last trip in 2013 and it was just as great in 2017. We had unit #8 – a spacious and bright 2 bedroom with kitchen. Parking is in front of the units. The view from the decks is spectacular. There is a large swimming pool (also with great view). Norm and Shelagh are wonderful hosts. They helped us book an “Explore” tour to Cape Reinga (it was one of the highlights of our trip). The motel location (a very short distance from Paihia) was perfect for us as it is away from the often busy and noisy main streets of Paihia, but close enough to drive to the shops and ferry terminal. If you are planning a trip to the Bay of Islands, we highly recommend that you stay here. We hope to come back one day soon.

The motel has fabulous views of the bay. Rooms are very clean, very quiet and the owners make you very welcome. The location is only a few minutes from Paihia so you get both: a peaceful setting and nice restaurants close by.
